When running a genny on the hook we all probably use the same equipment, ie., some lights, some entertainment, some galley, the fridge, maybe a water heater and in southwest Florida definitely the air conditioning.

What's your avg gas usage per hour, especially if you run your A/C overnite? Thanks.

We use 1 GPH. Does not seem to matter the load on 8KW.
We keep track of the gen fuel by using one tank for it. When we fill up we add 1 gallon for each hour on the gen to that sides fuel burn. If port tank took 100 gallons and the starboard tank 140 hours and the gen drew off starboard it would have 40 hours +/- a couple of hours on the gen. We switch draw for the generator at most fill ups and the results are the same.

Thanks northern, I've seen very similar numbers published elsewhere for the 8KW.

As far as I know, which isn't too far, I don't think these genny's have a load-based fuel consumption like the Honda portables.

It depends on gas or diesel as well as diesel will use less fuel. We use less than.5 gph typically and at full load will use right at .5 gph on a 5.5 kw westerbeke.

Mine uses about 0.5 gph but that is a very rough estimate. I have a Kohler 5ecd.

The boat I'm hoping to close on in a week or two has the 5KW Kohler gas unit. Anywhere between .5 and 1.0 gph will be great. We don't plan to use it too often but for overnites at the Dry Tortugas it's a necessity.

I previously carried a Honda Eu2000 which was reeally nice. Powered my 27's A/C easily and economically.
