How many 195 owners here?

What problems have you had?

I bought an '06 last July. After about 52 hours of use, these are my issues so far...

1. Thin gelcoat in a few spots on bottom... salesman pointed it out on delivery and scheduled a repair... repaired last month under warrantee.

2. Gelcoat bubble/crack behind/above the stbd rear speaker... repaired under warrantee

3. Just discovered gelcoat cracks by the trailer eye... see gelcoat cracks thread

4. Glove box would not open without a fight with the latch.... repaired under warrantee.

5. Keel locker door rattled... repair attempted by dealer but repair is unacceptable. They put rubber weather stripping on the 3 open (non-hinge) sides of the locker opening. Effecively stopping the rattling but transfering a lot of stress to the hinge and screws that hold the hinge to the deck. Also causing the stbd aft corner of the locker to stick up 3/4-1 inch... looks rediculous

6. Stbd side rubber/metal trim (that goes all the way around the boat) one screw has pulled out and the hole is stripped.

7. Caulking on f'glass trim pieces port and stbd gunwales... repair attempted by dealer but unacceptable. Expect to see more cracking this year... see Caulking thread.

8. Alpha 1 outdrive lower end... granaded. Bearing carrier, oil seal, etc. all spun out.... totally replaced under warrantee.

9. Plastic tab on the bottom of the front bow seat that holds it in its place... screws pulled out and tab came off on the SECOND day I was on the water. NO JOKE!!

As you can see I have not had a lot of happy times with my new sea ray. I must say that getting the repairs made (or at least attempted) has been easy. I haven't had to argue about them. But this is not what I expected from a Sea Ray. Were my expectations too high?

I'll keep you posted on future issues and repairs as they happen.

I think you are the first with the newer model. You should post some pictures in the Virtual Marina. Sorry to hear about the troubles but there are always some punch list items with a new boat. Were your expectations too high - no, but at least it seems the dealer is working with you on all of the issues. Alot of people will suggest buying used for this very reason you get all of the new boat owner kinks out of the way and get to buy a bigger boat. Good luck with getting everything fixed and enjoying your new Sea Ray!!!

Welcome aboard, and keep a possitive outlook.
The dealer is making everything right, thus far, and soon it will be a distant memory.

Enjoy, as you bought one of the finest brands on the water....

I Took delivery of my 06' 195 in March this year. I have only 5.5 hours on it today, but will work hard to correct that! Very happy with the fit and finish of my 195. I did have the dealer fix a problem with a loose vinyl panel. I also noticed red fluid in the bilge and after checking the fluids, found the PS fluid was not even registering on the dip stick. I'll have to keep an eye on that. One other thing I noticed was the steering wheel is about 30deg of center. Anyone know how to adjust the wheel?

The steering wheel on my boat is 180 degrees off. It is completely upside down when the drive is centered. That was something I was planning to bitch to the dealer about but I forgot about it with all the other issues I've had. The vinyl panel... is that the ones that line the cockpit? Mine are bowed out too. Keep a check on the gelcoat up at the winch eye. Mine is cracked... as is some of the 185 owners.

By the way, welcome aboard. Good to have another 195 owner around. I was starting to think SeaRay only sold one to me!

See the thread I posted on the caulking issues I've had... are you having these issues yet?

Cheers, Todd

Hey MacPhly, and other Sea Ray Sport boaters.

No cracking of the gelcoat by the bow eye or any other places that I've noticed. The caulking looks fine too. As for the bowed vinyl panel.... it's the port side cockpit panel that is bowed. The dealer tried glue, but now the layers are separating. I think at this point it will have to be replaced.
Someone once said a boat is a hole in the water that you constantly fill with money. I'm glad were talking warranty here.

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to drop a line.... I am a new member to ClubSeaRay.com....

This thread seemed appropriate for an intro.... I am the proud owner of a 2006 SeaRay Sport 195! Took delivery in July of '06... Couldn't be more happy with the boat!

I can honestly say that I haven't had any of the problems mentioned in the previous posts.... But I will keep my eyes peeled for any issues....

I look forward to making some new friends here on Clubsearay.com!

Happy boating and be safe on the water!

How can there be so many Sea Ray 195 sport boats sold yet next to no people who own them in forums. I have never seen a forum so dead for a certain model of anythng. Everything usually has tons of owners discussing their boats, except when it comes to the 195, 205 and 185 sport boats. Which are some of the most popular runabouts in the USA.

Are there any 195 sport owners around these days?

Does it seem to anyone else like the 195 sport is a lot rarer than the 185 or 205?

In Australia there are only 2 of the 195 sports for sale. one is for $42,000 and the other is for $29,000. Both only have the V6 on them as well.
Hence why my $29,000 195 sport is getting $7000 worth of treatment so its the best looking one and when it comes time for someone to buy one of these, im hoping they will take mine and I will get my money back out of it, which should happen with my V8, my ski tower, which neither of these $40k boats have. So common sense says they would buy the cheaper boat that has a new wake tower, new upholstery, new carpet, new bucket seats, new covers, and the V8. Id like to think they would pay $35k for mine when those guys with nothing i have are asking $40k.

Anyway there are just no discussions about this boat going on. id love to talk to some 195 owners because i badly need a trace of the back engine compartment bopard.

i also have original yellow seats for sale very cheap.

I'd love to find out if the front bow seat of the 2011 195 would fit the same cut out as the other two bow seats, so then I can upgrade my seat.

So much Id like to discuss, like what is the 21p SS prop like with a V8 mpi? I run a 19p SS and feel like i should be getting more than 5000rpm and should be getting more top end than the 58mph i am getting. Will a 21 ss p do it for me? The aluminium one i tried changed nothing against the ss 19p.

Anyone at all out there with a 195?

I've got an '08 195 Sport that I purchased a few months ago. It's in amazing condition and runs great.

WOT on our boats is 4400-4800 and I think the rev limiter kicks in at 5100. If you're running 5000, you're probably getting just about all you can get out of it. I don't really pay attention to top speed very often on my boat, but it seems like the fastest GPS speed I've ever seen is in the low 50's, so if you're at 58 I think that's great. I also run a 19p SS prop (3 blade).

Our engines are completely different. Mine is a MPI 260hp.
I am getting WOT at 4000 RPM and it goes to 5000 RPM to 5200 RPM or it might be 49 to 51. Not too sure but i should be getting well over 60mph, or at least 63mph like others do. Im thinking the 21p is the answer.

I tell you what I took a 5.0l TKS like yours out in a maxum 1900 the day before i purchased the 195 sport, actually i purchased the maxum took it out and then he told me he had a 195 sport so i swapped as it had the MPI in it, but ont he TKS vs the MPI there was a major, and i mean major difference.
I like the carbie engines, i really do, I actually wish my yamaha R1 had the old carby instead of the Fuel injected motor, but ont he boat the TKS was a great engine with lots of power but then when I jumped in the MPI it was a whole different world. it was like driving a jetboat. I was out of the hole in 2.3 seconds and at top speed within 6 seconds. The main difference was just how responsive the engine is which is makes it feel like a jetboat. The fuel injection is just instant when you touch that throttle, whereas the carby engine everything takes a second or two.
The one thing I prefer with the carby is you hear the tourque and you feel it, unlike the MPI as the engine doesnt sound as grunty and you do not really feel the torque in the MPI because the 260hp just blasts the boat forward and doesnt need to dig down and push the boat, it is more like a rocket. Torque at low revs is just something you dont feel as 260hp throws it forward. It is like picking it up out of the water and throwing it rather than pushing it up out of the hole.

Dont think i am rubbishing your engine because I am not. I think it is a great engine, but the MPI is just a different world and to be hoest with you I often get the feeling that I am missing out with this engine because you dont get to feel the grunty power of a V8 like you do with a carby. And that in itself takes away alot of the fun of driving this boat, but at the same time it replaces it with super high speed turns and you can really throw the boat around. End of the day though, the MPI might be just a little too much for the 195. I feelt that a bit. I am hoping i get some of the feleing back of the engine when i get to try a 21p SS prop. Your running the right prop at 220hp with a carby. Mine is just at WOT way too early.

BTW< MY GPS top speed is 56mph or 58mph and what is amazing about it is that the Tach is always bang on with what my GPS read out is. No matter what speed I am at. Never before I have i seen a boat where the tach is bang on with the GPS, it is usually 5-10mph out of wack.

As a bit of fun i was going 50mph and turned the boat as hard as I could, i mean as hard as i could, fair enough I went into the turn a little wide but while in the turn and without the prop messing up i ended up turning as hard as i could with no prop cavitation and it did not slip even the slightest, it was like it was on rails. This was the most amazing feeling i have ever got out of this boat, but then I ddi it with a friend on board and it was super fun and he was laughing his head off but with him being one of the biggest muslium guys I have ever seen he went from holding the grab handle to holding onto the side of the seat while in this turn pulling G's and then the seat ripped the screw and built in nuts out of the seat plate and he ended up with the seat on the floor. Until that happened he was laughing hysterically.

Anyway I thought I would throw that in because maybe a 195 owner has always wnated to turn it as hard as they can and i just wanted to let you know that it is one of the best features of this hull as it is on rails.

I just purchased the Samsung Gear 360 camera this week and I will mount it to the top of my monster MTk tower and video some 360 degree video of some hard turns and some wakeboarding next week. Then you can put the file into your phone and watch it on the samsung gear VR so that everywhere you look in the headset you will see the exact direction on the video that you are looking at. So you look straight ahead and you see what the boat is pointing at but when you turn around you see the side of the boat and then the back of the boat and the wakeboarder. Full on 360 degree immersion tricking your brain into thinking you are actually there. This video camera does this. So I will get some video this week for those of you have the $99 headset to click your phones into and watch some cool footage.

One last thing, Speak to lazydave about seat coolers for the 185 and 195 sport models. We are having them made this week and they will be available for all members here at excellent prices.

Is there any chance you would be able to take some measurments of your boat for me? I need the port side engine bay seperator for the storage measured out so i can make the piece. The piece that seperates the battery from the engine.

Yell out if you need any brand new bucket seats or i have a full dash with all original gauges and all the wiring harness and ignition to go with it.

Don't worry, I didn't feel like you were talking bad about my engine!! I didn't read your info well enough, so I didn't realize you had the MPI. I would expect your boat to be quicker. It's got 20% more HP than mine!!!

Sure. I'd be happy to. I was planning on going to the boat today (it's an hour away from my house), but it's raining today so I probably won't go. I should be up there tomorrow or the next day and when I do I'll take the measurements.

Thats awesome man. Do you need any coolers? I could get you one of the ones im having made at my cost price. Let me know if you have them or not, if you already have then there is no point.

Yeah I need that piece that seperates the battery from the engine. So that would be a huge help as I can just make it myself then. I just do not like the idea of using wood though in a boat which proudly does not have any wood,

Also if you have the wider front bow seat, as mine has the same size front bow seat as the two side bow seats, I would like to know if the storage hole is about the same size as the two sides. Because if it is then I will know I can just buy that front bow seat and plop it in rather than having one built for me.

The last thing Id like to know is can you look under your engine and see if there is any gelcoat cracking or chipping in the bilge. Maybe me asking you to look under there might also save you from having an accident by otherwise not checking under there. My poil pressure switch rusted off from the sea water under there and dumped all my oil,. Its not a piece of the engine many people check. Actually you may not even have it under there. But if you do, check it. I wish i had

Steve, did you have any luck with the measuring for me?
Cheers

My three bow cushions are all the exact same size, although the storage hole for the front center one is completely different cutout than the two on the sides.
