Being new to the marina life, I would like any advice you'all can give regarding keeping the creepies at bay. For example, does tying dryer sheets around the dock lines work? The spiders, I notice are already moving onto my boat before my family can.

Spray your lines too. We get them and the dock at least two times a season. Be sure to clean up any thing that will attrach bugs. Bugs will attrached spiders. We use a product called Permethrine, Have had great sucess. Keep her buttoned up tight when your not on board.

I also spray insecticide on the dock and dock lines. Also, I do the power station and both sides of the finger pier. The wind will still blow some on board but far fewer and manageable.

My experience trying to use on board solutions like dryer sheets has mostly been negative.

You have to kill them before they get on board.

Oh yeah, when you do find them on board make sure they can't come back. They are good swimmers.

Great idea with doing the the power station as well. Can't see the forest through the trees over here some times.
Thanks

I have heard of people putting a couple dryer sheets in their boat during storage to keep spiders out.

Any concern with handling the dock lines after spraying and getting the poison on your hands ?

Spraying the dock lines and handling them is a concern. I have permanent dock lines and only spray the part of the lines where they are tied to the dock. After a rain, I spray everything again.

In addition to spraying the dock and lines, we spray the undersides of the gunnels and inside cockpit lockers where spiders like to build their nests. The easiest way to spray a dock is with a product designed to be attached to a garden hose. It takes me just 5 minutes to give the dock and 6 spring pilings a good soaking. This lasts all season unless we receives lots of rain. I will sometimes repeat it in August. Getting rid of the spiders also keeps the birds away as they tend to hang out where the food is readily available.
