Last year we tried a spray called "Clipper Spider Kill". We noticed a distinct reduction in spiders on the boat. We can't do anything about the dock so we used it on our lines and on the bimini, especially around the zipper pickets for the bow's.

I'm thinking of trying "Onslaught Fastcap" this year. Has anyone tried it on or near a boat. Specifically I'm concerned about gelcoat and isinglass. My wife is less than careful and this product says, "Contains petroleum distillates". I'm worried it might be harmful to the gel and plastic.

We use the ortho home defense stuff. Get it at BJ's for $20 for 2 gallons and I spray lines, docks, power cords, edge of platform, etc. Never caused any discoloring and definitely works

My wife made a mixture of vinegar & thieves oil... I have not seen a spider since spraying it around.

+1 to ortho home defense. I've used it for years at the marina and around the house.
Works great, doesn't stink. I put it in a hand pump garden sprayer.

10 bay leaves soaked on a gallon of water and then the water sprayed around everywhere. The vinegar solution works too. Vinegar is also a good weed killer, but it'll also kill your lawn.

+1 - Three years of using the Ortho here as well. Works like a champ. I usually buy it at Home Depot by the gallon when they drop the price in the fall. I spray all lines, the pedestal and my anchor.

Spraying the dock for spiders keeps the birds away too as there is less live food for them to eat. Fewer birds means fewer bird dings on the boat.

WOW! I'm surprised about the response to Ortho! Most insecticides are only good for "bugs" and don't really repel spiders. No bugs, no spider food though. Thanks for the input. I'll give that a try as well this year. We're under cover and the spiders are relentless.

You can buy the raw ingredient Bifenthrin by the pint on amazon and make 16 gallons of the stuff for what 1 gal costs. This is the same active ingredient in Orhto Home Defense Max.

Heading up to spray since I'm also waxing and polishing the boat. Don't want those little bastards undoing my hard work!

Definitely a fan of Ortho around the perimeter of the house. Was reading around and a lot of people recommended Suspend SC for the boat. Thinking we will try it this year and see how it works. Anyone have any experience using it?

I've used Ortho Home defense for a few years. We're also under covered shed and even though I spray the perimeter and lines the real onslaught is from above...

We've used Home Defense for years on our boat. We spray beneath the rails and I lockers where spiders like to hide. We use insecticides designed for vegetable gardens, that attach to a garden hose for doing the dock as it is so much quicker than hand sprayers. Takes just a couple of minutes to soak things down and we remain bug free for pretty much the entire season. In mid May the annual toxic dump of weed killers starts on our lake. Names like Aquanet, aquathol K, copper sulfate, 2,4-D and Diquat will make regular appearances.

moth balls worked for us

Ortho on the dock works well. Another issue are the ones in the roof along the pearlings. I fixed them too. I have an extendable pole that has 3 sections and extends out 24’. HD sells a 6 pack of insect bombs for $7.50. I have exactly 6-pearlings over my boat. One at a time, I tape a bomb to the end of my pole and spray one bomb/pearling. I do this about every 3 weeks and no spider poop at all.

Started out last year with the Ortho, works great on dock lines, etc like some of the other posts.

My question is do others spray their exterior canvas, curtains, isinglass and hard top? I stuck to rub rail and below on boat and the bow rails. I was concerned about using it on the all new canvas and glass I just paid $$$ for. Officially, I think I have strata glass aft and polycarbonate glass above windshield.

TIA
