Guys,

So im out today in the gulf, everythings goin good, then i notice my speedo is acting weird, it slowly went all the way down. now when im under way it does not come up really at all. say at 3400rpm where i should be at 30-35mph its probably at 5mph on the speedo at most. the max i get is 10mph on the speedo when im WOT and i know im going at least 45+. Any ideas on this guys?

Is your hole plugged? I have had this happen before and was able to clean it and all was well.

hmm where is that hole located? We tried to find it but dont really know what im lookin for.

The little notch (in front) right above the prop shaft housing on your skeg.

awsome! found it. it had a little piece of junk stuck in it. Should be good now once i bring it on the water. thanks guys!

I recently had my speedo quit and found the line disconnected on the bottom of the outdrive, close to where it goes through the transom. It snapped right back together.

After not finding any junk in the hole on the leading edge, I found the problem by disconnecting the line from the speedo under the dash and blowing with an air compressor. The hissing led me right to the problem.

If you find there's more stuck in there, try a 1/8th drill bit by hand only. Twist it in with your fingers and it should clean it out good. Usually that's only needed if you hot something, like wood, and plugged it good.

Wow. I just CANNOT keep mine working.

I just gave up and run with GPS speed indication. Note that when currents are in play, there could be a real difference between GPS Speed (actual boat movement) and water speed.

avoid the urge to use a power drill as the bit can easily snap inside the pitot hole. :smt101

Or change the intake diameter giving you false high speed readings.
