Anybody out there know if spectrum color can match paint to gelcoat?I need to refinish the cat eye exterior trim rings and i would like them to match.I have a proffit camera for paintr matching automobiles but it has to have a wider footprint to take a picture of than 1".Any other ideas ? My boat is oyster in color and isnt fadded as i just had the whole boat rubbed out. Thanks

I have used Spectrum on several boats and the product we used was more of a gel goat paste than a liquid gel coat. If Spectrum can match you some "Gel coat" you can reduce it with styrene to a sprayable viscosity.

I just looked into ordering some gelcoat for my boat from Spectrum. Spectrum can match the color of your original gelcoat if you give them the make, model, year and color of your boat. I offered my hull ID number as well but they said that would not be necessary in order to provide a color match. You have a relatively light colored hull which means there would be a minimum of sunfading, compared to hulls with darker colors.

I would be willing to bet they can get you a good enough color match just by giving them a call. My local retailer, Outboard Motor Shop in Oakland, charges $100 per quart.

You cannot get an accurate color match by taking a picture. Cameras can interpret the frequency of light differently than what is correct. Printers are also not absolutely correct at getting colors correct either.

Ok thanks ,first i ordered matching gelcoat from spectrum ,second I didnt know it could be thinned and sprayed so thanks again for that info, third a profit camera is for color matching automobile paint ,it actually takes three to 5 pictures three frasmes at a time then tells the computer what pigments are used and how much of each to make up a specified color .This works great on large surfaces, the camera dosent leave the shop due to its cost though and my truck wont tow my boat .The trim pieces are to narrow to get a good picture (all three frames at once).I will try thinning an ounce of spectrums gelcoat with styrene though .thanks again

You can get gelcoat from Spectrum ready to spray. The fiberglass guy who works in our boatyard uses it. He is always laughing at my little bottles of Spectrum gelcoat paste.

In general if you contact Sea Ray with your HIN they can give you the SR part number for the gelcoat and Spectrum can provide a match from that.
