still another in the long list of reasons to evacuate NJ and never look back...:smt013:smt013:smt013

can you imagine a state holding my marina hostage, disallowing permits to make improvements, until they allow the public to wander about aimlessly whenever and whereever they wish like it's central park? and if the marina doesnt comply, bulkheads will fall into ruin and marina owners will throw up their hands in frustration and sell to condo developers. then what happens to "access to waterfront?"

i think the marina mentioned (with regards to new bathrooms) in this article is the one i keep my boat at. since there is no pier or floating docks, our entire marina is "the water's edge" which means we'd be forced to get real friendly with ALL the locals, whether it's at 12 noon or 12 midnight. :smt013:smt013:smt013:smt009:smt009:smt009

It's a stupid idea some jerk-face at the state DEP dreamed up. Once a few drunks or kids fall in and drown that will be the end of it.

I thought the same thing when I read it. How dumb can some politicians be.

How dumb can some politicians be.

Dude seriously?? Republican or democrat... look at our energy situation and re-ask yourself that question. Saw yesterday that the Dept of interior or some other building full of useless bureaucrats passed a 2 year suspension of SOLAR plant permits citing the need for "A studyof Environmental impact"... are you freaking kidding me... now they want to bolck Solar energy? I thought that was the Greens last hope... No clean coal, no more drilling, no wind in Teddy K's neck of the woods, and for God's sake.. no Nukes but no solar now either.. WTF.... So How dumb indeed.. SORRY FOR THE HI-JACK...

lt. dan
that was NOT a hijack - as a matter of fact it is right on topic! if we keep electing politicians like these, we'll repeat Roman history.

You know I thought right after I hit the post reply button we were talking about politicians, they never cease to amaze me.

Reminds me of the 1st Generation Electric/Hybrid cars... yeah they poluted slightly less but nobody thought far enough ahead to realize that the early technology batteries when no good anymore would cause more environmental problems than burning a little extra petrol via an efficient 4cyl w/ similar power... maybe they learned their lesson...

Not likely.. just think about the CF (compact Flouro) bulbs; more hazdrous waste generated by those little bombs. Isn't that mercury in there? They have all lost their minds and by proxy/vote so have we as we keep electing them I mean really, does the majority of this country (those that elected the Majority in congress) really forsake all forms of energy... does the majority really want us to be a 3rd world country? because that's what our Majority in congress is steering us towards

People are ignorant about technology. Every form of technology. Additionally, they have a dichotomous view of technology. On one side, technology is bad. It makes pollution and dehumanizes, blah, blah, blah. The other side is that if big bad business would "allow" it we would have 100 mpg carburetors and non-polluting energy.

I was in Home Depot last week and asked one of the employees where I'd find some electrical stuff. Apparently he was bored and started to follow me around. I got his views on a lot of nonsense, including evil SUVs and 100 MPG carburetors. This "adult" still believes in that crap.

The reason we have stupid bureaucrats is we have stupid elected officials. We have stupid elected officials because just enough of the electorate is equally ignorant. The politicians, NGOs and other bastards can talk authoritatively about nonsense and most people don't know that it's nonsense!

How do you educate, or rather reeducate nearly the entire population?

Best regards,
Frank C

if you think it's bad here, try living in California. I was visiting my sister in San Fran and one of her kids came home from school and asked "Mommy, why are you and daddy killing all of the owls with your SUV?" It was green day at school. Tax dollars hard at work.

.."Mommy, why are you and daddy killing all of the owls with your SUV?" ...

Cause we ran out of shells for the shot-gun... Now shut up and eat your Kentucky Fried Owl...

Sorry, warped sense of humor this morning.

Here's another energy saving tip Big Oil and Uncle Sam don't want you to know about...

But back on topic, couple of nice lawsuits and public access will be re-thought

Mark Twain nailed it with politicians:

"All Congresses and Parliaments have a kindly feeling for idiots, and a compassion for them, on account of personal experience and heredity."

"Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself."

"Fleas can be taught nearly anything that a Congressman can."

"It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress."

"Whiskey is carried into committee rooms in demijohns and carried out in demagogues."

FOLLOW UP TO MY ORIGINAL POST. From the Sept 2008 edition of BOAT/US Magazine. Thank heavens there are actually some people in the govt machine that can see that this was obscenely WRONG. this is the main reason why ALL OF US MUST support BOAT/US. the work they do to not only make us aware of this sort of nonsense but also to help thwart it is priceless. it's only a moratorium but it's a start...

How do become part of the 10 person task force that is going to spent 2009 and 2010 'studying' this? I want to be paid by your tax dollars for 2 years to state the obvious.

Touche' :smt038

I fine this line typically fits, ' Ignorance and mental laziness, the world's two most deadliest diseases. At least stupid people have a defense which the others cannot say they have..'

Gotta agree with that.

The technical literacy of the general population is remarkably low.

Last fall, I was having a conversation with a Doctor. Not just any doctor, but a Chief Cardiologist for significantly sized hospital network.

We started talking about H2 fueled cars, and he simply had NO IDEA regarding the issues on why this technology is doomed. (the basic issue is where do you get the H2? -> The basic choices is bulk hydrolysis of water using coal fired electricity. . .or by cracking NG in a process that releases MAJOR quantities of CO2)[/I]

I have seen this in other fields as well. . .get outside the narrow scope of the discipline, and the main source of information is NewsWeek.

Wow! I was having a really cranky day last month.

oh the number of "I hate NJ threads" last month was, like, crazy!

Be thankful that we don't have personal property taxes.

And while the 7% sales tax is bad. . . .it is higher in both Houston and California (I spend time in both areas)
