So what size gas tank do I have?

I recently bought my 2009 230 select used. From the specs I found online I thought it had a 50 gal fuel tank. I've only had it on the water 3 times and each time I ran about 14 to 15 gallons through it each time and the fuel gauge indicated that I had used over 1/4 tank to near 1/2 tank of gas. I downloaded the owners manual from Sea Ray and found conflicting information published there. In the spec table it shows 50 gallons (45 usable) but in the paragraph about the fuel system in mentions a 40 gallon tank. I hate to run it out of gas to find out which is correct.

Gauges can be hard to trust. I feel like 1/8th of my tanks exist above the "full" mark on my gauges.

Sorry I can't offer any help but I must say - 40 gallons seems small for a boat this size. I'd assume, perhaps incorrectly, that you would have at least that 50.

I'm sure a fellow 230 owner will come along. You may want to post this in your model-specific thread too...

Thanks for the reply. I did repost the question over in the Sport Boat section. Good idea.

I have a 215 and that has a 50 gallon tank. I would think you would have at least that also

IIRC I believe you will find the fuel tank in a 215EC is actually 48 gallons but the specs say it has a 50 gallon tank....I suppose the extra two gallons would be in the fuel line.....there should be a tag on the tank that states it is a 48 gallon tank....

More important would be how much usable fuel does the tank hold.
You need to get familiar with your gauge, they all read a little bit different.
Best way to figure it out, is get it low and travel with a 5 gallon jug. when it quits then you'll know for sure

Can you see the tank?

On the 240 Sundeck, when you open the engine cover, I can see the rear of the tank and have a visual on how much fuel is in the tank. Maybe you can see if there is an info stamped on the tank.

The points above about "getting to know your fuel gauge" are spot on. But, look around on top of the tank - there will be a visible tag that will tell you it's size. Sometimes you can see this from the bilge, other times through an access plate - but it's always visible, somehow.

Thank you for the information. I had no idea about this but I will look into it

Our boats are similiar in size. Curious why most of the newer boats that are the same size as mine have a smaller fuel tank? I have a 1991 Sea Ray 225 BR. My tank is 70 gallons.

I realize that a full tank weighs down the boat therefore using more fuel. With today's gas prices I like filling it up especially when I'm on vacation. I don't have to drive my rig back into town as often to fill her up.
