I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Get it running well and keep it or flip it. I wanted a trailer able boat. But will still keep the 410. 454 if I keep it I may upgrade to a Bravo drive .

Dayum, looks exactly like my first 87 268. Mine had the weak ass 5.7 Alpha. Was underpowered. Badly. Sold it and got an 89 with 454 Bravo1.
But in 87 88 you could get a 7.4/454 with an Alpha. Bad combo, too much engine for Alpha.
So in 89 SR came up with the Bravo which was a better match.
So if that has the 7.4 with Alpha, put a Bravo on it.
Yeah. Like I said. If I decide to keep it that is what I will do. You may see me down your way. I liked boating in the Chesapeake.

Check the transom very carefully. The 268 was SR most popular boat 86 - 89. Sold a bazillion. You dont see many anymore. Transom rot was bad in that model. I ended up selling my 89 to a friend who put a new transom on it. There a reason you dont see many on the water these days for all the many SR sold.
Before i bought my 250 in 2020, i searched everywhere for a decent 268. Rare as hens teeth. Go over it carefully before you commit.
My 89, 7.4/B1, was my favorite SR. That boat was a beast. Went thru weather on the Chesapeake you can’t imagine. Many time she stuffed the bow into green water.

This one is solid. The seller let me drill a hole in it. Solid wood and dry inside. I think it had the camper top most of it's life.

Love the 268's. Loved my 260 as well. The 268 was the next generation. It got six inches wider and 5 inches longer. It wasn't much but it was noticeable in the cabin.

I believe they also got a 20 degree dead rise hull as compared to the 23 degree of my vintage. This made them a little less tender at rest and underway.

And yes, the Big Block and Bravo's performed very well. The Alpha's were a weak link with the 454, and the performance was reduced by the 1.36 gears they used to try to (unsuccessfully) allow the drive to handle the big block torque.

Finally, the 502 with EMI headers and Silent Thunder exhaust was definitely a runner. It would run mid fifties barely bouncing off the rev limiter. Great memories.
