So if I did not buy a Sea Ray I would buy...

Frank,
Why do you think IPS is much better than Zeus? I'm still not comfortable having these expensive components in the brackish or salt water. I wander what kind of reports we'll get when these units get around 5 yrs of use.

Alex.

Yes, it's much better.

Volvo has been developing the IPS for years. The current drive has several years of work. Mercury threw zeus together overnight to avoid losing market share.

The IPS housing is entirely nibral. The propellers are nibral. Everything exposed to salt water is nibral except the stainless steel prop shafts. The Zeus is bronze, which is cheaper, softer, less robust, and heavier. Zeus props are stainless. There are a lot of different metals on the Zeus drive. While they are noble, large amounts of dissimilar metals is generally a bad thing.

Merc has a long history of rushing product to market (usually following Volvo's lead) and in doing so, they sell products that are not fully engineered. They let the customers bear the financial cost of Merc's testing and debugging.

IPS was first installed in 2004. They have been doing fine.

Best regards,
Frank

There is a little smaller version in my marina, that is a nice boat. cuts through chop like it's not even there.

I would assume that gas/diesel costs will have skyrocketed, so I would either go to a rag bote or a trawler. A 40' Cat would be nice, or a small to mid-sized Grand Banks.

Being in TX, you must own an Oil well. That baby holds 4300+ gals of fuel.
That's 20 Large to fill up..............Hippeee.

We wish... as they say "everything's bigger in Texas"

Coolest boat website I've ever seen - Do Italians know how to make a boat or what

I like the Chapps until I took a look at that Pershing, un-be-lievable! Why do I feel like Im cheating? :smt009

Bu it has a pink deck. But for that I would be all over this one...making an offer today.....

wouldnt catch me in a Eurofag boat (i can say that b/c i'm 100% Italian)! realistically, for approximately the same amount of dough, i'd want a boat that is large enough for me and my family and easy for me to handle MYSELF without a bow thruster (cheating, although i'd take one!). i'm talking sub-40'. in a sundancer vein, i'd go for the Cruiser's 37xx series with diesels. in a bridge boat, i'd go for the Silverton 36 convertible with yanmars. i've been on both - nice build quality, top notch interiors with lots of REAL hardwood, great layouts (stall shower!) and engine choices.

i've always said i wouldnt move up in size, just in MODEL YEAR.

and, btw, i did own a crownline - it was a great boat in every aspect (just too small).

Nice boat, but she has 6v92's. Go back and re-read the portions of the thread on early 90's 500DA's dealing with Detroit Diesel engines.

They might be ok, but they may be candidates for a new top end too. The only way to find out is with an engine survey. These aren't Cats or Cummins; a survey begins at about $4000 on 2 stroke Detroits.

I called the broker to see about looking at this one. Already under contract and surveyed.
