Smilies; ease of use

In the old layout of the forum, it was pretty easy to place smilies in a post (for the good or bad). Now, in order to place them, I have to scroll down to the very bottom of the window, and click on the 'Smilies are On' link to see them and pick the one I want. Is there an easier way?
For example, I used to be able to type in my post and a little guy with a wink would appear. would place a happy face. would apply a little guy with his tongue sticking out. Now, they look just like I typed them. I have to use that crazy code that starts with a colon in order to get one...and I haven't been able to memorize them yet! :smt021

I don't really know Gunn, just giving you a hard time. Are you clicking post reply or you doing quick reply. When I do post reply the smilies are to my right and I just click what I want? :huh:

Some how smiles appear at inappropriate times too, such as when warning about impending severe storms. Sorry if the smile in the title offended anyone.

I fixed your posting. That was just at the bottom there are the post ICONS that some how got on the smile icon. All fixed.

When I do post reply the smilies are to my right and I just click what I want? :huh:

No smilies to my right. Below this textfield there is the "Post Icons", but that is just for the thread message. I gotta scroll clear down to the bottom, click on the "Smilies are On" link to have them all popup in a seperate window. Then I have to copy the code, and paste it into the message .Too hard! (crybaby face here).

Please verify that you are not typing in the quick reply, you are actually clicking the "post reply" and then typing your request. :smt024

Ok, I hit the 'Post Reply' little orange button right below your post, and here I am now typing. Centered in a bunch of whitespace is a white are with Title and Message fields. Below that are 'Post icons' in italics. To the far right, in another column is "Site Navigation" in the top row, followed by others.

That's it. No smilies to insert into my post!?

ok glad we got that worked out. At the top beside search click UserCP, click edit options, go to the bottom, see if misc options drop down is on enhanced interface FULL WYSIWYG editing.

My setting was set to "Basic editor"; the 1st option. Even my quick response area is much enhanced. This looks really nice; I'll try not to get carried away with all the new options for me to play with. :smt101 So its been that way ever since the site redesign. This setting should be the default option; why would anyone ever want basic??
