Like I start all my posts, I'm a newbie to boating this season, and I'm still learning the ins and outs of my boat, an '04 260da.

I've noticed a mildewy smell from my head. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the drain in the floor. When I enter the boat, it often has a dirty, damp green ring around it. I clean it up, and it appears again next time. Where is this water coming from?

That drain should drain into a sump box where the water from your shower is pumped overboard. Kick the sump pump on and drain what you can. To get the last little bit you either need to flush a bunch of water down the drain or open up the box and manually drain the water. I'd just flush it with a bunch of clean water weekly or whenever you are done for the weekend.

Pour some simple green into the drain. Also, don't let your family pee into the shower drain, like many do. The sump doesn't drain 100% by a long shot. Anything that goes in there sits for whatever period of time. The book recommends flushing with 1 gallon of clean water after each use.

I forgot to mention that I have never taken a shower in there. As far as I know, the drain has not seen any water this season. I assume the winterization emptied the sump....

I will try flushing it with Simple Green and Water.
