My smart craft has never been accurate for reading and displaying the correct amount of fuel. It is ok when I fill up and it reads full, but after a bit of fuel usage, it goes all over the place. Then when I'm below half full, it will read both tanks as full. This happens on the 2 dashboard needle guages also.

Is there a quick fix? Maybe reset the smartcraft?

Thanks

My sense is the problem is in the senders because both types of gauges are in agreement. It could also be a wireing / ground thing. I would start by spend an hour with an electrical meter trying to make sense of it or call a smart mechanic. :)

Good luck,
Rich

Thanks:

I'm tempted to do the smart craft auto tank configuration option on the menu. Not sure if that would fix it?

You can see my previuos post on this but it seems to be the fuel senders > I am in process of getting new ones in . Just call searay and they will know about the fuel sender issue and the new senders they are using are royce senders ( mught be spelled incorectly ) . This was a very frustrating problem but searay was very helpful . the new sender ( they only had one and it was too short but in a pinch is working > now the other one went out and both will be replaced this week > i tried evrything with the smart craft but it is not smart craft issue at least for me.
My smart craft and analog guages go from full to empty . When the go empty they :flash critical hi fuel input " > then are empty in say 7 seconds >> The new sender even though it is reading incorrect due to being 2 inches too short is working well on the smart craft > I have cummins by the way > i am sure thats it for you as your problem looks like mine >

Thanks for the advise and follow up. I reclibrated them last week using the auto function but it's still inaccurate after some fuel usage. Now I've started switching screens to the fuel used screen to sort of do the math myself.

I'll call Searay and see what they say. I have twin 8.1 Mercruisers.

Indecision, Also, were the senders covered under your original or extended warranty, if not how much are they,, and are they difficult to install?

Thanks

They were covered by Searay as the boat is new and under the first year . I would guess they are pretty easy to install after you get access . Stbd is in rear stateroom and port you have to remove the refrigerator . but , i did not put them in and they are schudled to go in this week if they come in . Now my friend has a 38 with 8 .1 s and his are now going out also .

OK, thanks.

Yeah, I'll have to see if the extended warranty will cover it or my dealer will crush me with travel time, parts and labor. Likely a $800 plus job.

I am experiencing the same problem, did you call your dealer or Sea Ray direct? (Which Number?)

Neither yet. My experience with the dealer is if I call them, they say they have to send someone out to look at it: $150.00. Next, they will spend time diagnosing it: $75.00 per hour. Next, they will fix it and charge me, then submit to the Searay extended warranty insurance 3rd party company to see if they will cover it, only then will they reimburse me.

I am wondering if there is a way to call the warranty company directly to see if its covered? It's not so much the money as the principal of the whole thing. You feel trapped.

I started having issues this year. Port and Starboard tanks are filled at the same time. Both say 100%/100% Then shortly after the Starboard tank shows much less gas in it. 95%/65% and so on. My 300DA doesn't have any other means of checking fuel levels other than the Smartcraft monitor.

I have almost the exact same issue on my 300DA. I filled up and calibrated the tank monitors again yesterday but am not expecting a fix. I get the annoying "low fuel" alarm at somewhere around a half tank sometimes.

I usually reset the fuel used monitor after I fill up as it seems to be accurate.
