Smartcraft < > button broken

The < > toggle switch that moves from screen to screen does not work in either direction except up and down. Its as if the button beneath the rubber ring is depressed too far and no longer makes contact when pressed.

Is there a quick fix? What does one of these units cost new?

I had a 2004 34 Sundancer that had the same problem. Sometimes you can pop up the buttons under the rubber, but I had to replace the whole unit. The cost was about $700.

I had the same problem and contacted Mercruiser. The Select up/down/right/left 'button' is a rubber diaphram that sits on top of 5 push button switches. They told me that sometimes the little peg on the inside of the rubber pad gets misaligned with the pushbutton it is supposed to actuate. (sometimes also the pushbutton switch goes south, but you can't DIY fix that)

To test out whether I was still in DIY land they told me:

Take the cover off (it just lifts off), that will expose the clear plastic screen and top of the Smartview

Carefully pry back the rubber near the non functioning switch (it is a b*t*h to get the lip back under the clear plastic so don't remove any more than you have to)

Now reseat the rubber piece, this should realign the rubber with the pushbutton top.
