My 2002 4.3 mpi mercruiser was running rough so i replaced the spark plugs and now its running smooth again (ie on all 6 cyls) But now i get an alarm, 2 beeps every 1 minute. Temp and oil pressure all look good and after driving for about 20 minutes the alarm stops. What could be causing this ??
Cheers
Ron.

Did you check the level of the outdrive gear oil?

I had the same issue after a very short wide open throttle run and it turned out I had something blocking my water pressure sensor oil pressure was fine gear lube was fine temperature was fine so I came on here and got a few recommendations

Yes it was only down slightly but topped it off just in case but alarm is still there. The alarm started after i replaced the spark plugs. I ran the engine on the earmuffs (Hose) One plug was faulty as engine was running on 5 cyls Now running great but now has the alarm. ps Alarm was not there before changing plugs. Thought i might have knocked a wire off a sensor but cant see anything. Alarm goes away after about 15/20 minutes driving.

Okay, so what did you do to fix the alarm ?? Where is that sensor ?? Cheers.

Funny you ask. I took the boat out of the water, we were done for the day. Went home and flushed with salt away like I do Everytime I use my boat and it has not come back since.

The water pressure sensor is in the power steering cooler.

2 beeps a minute simply means "some" sensor is complaining. "Why" it's complaining is the detective part... just a flaky sensor? Or is there more to it?

Just a side note, in case you didn't know... things like your oil pressure and engine temp have both a sender (to the gauge) and a sensor (to the computer).

Take a look on youtube for mercruiser water pressure sensor and there are a couple of videos showing that the port gets clogged and how to clean it.

All my gauges were good , drive oil was good. It's getting manifolds and risers in the spring so will have it looked at . No codes

Thanks Bill I will check it out. It seems like this is the likely problem. As other people suggested the water pressure sensor as well. Cheers Ron.
