four of my smart craft gauges are developing some kind off cracks on it, nothing has hit the gauges or anything, this cracks just appear this summer the boat is keep in indoor heated storage and when in the Harbor I keep a custom made cover on the dash to keep sun rates away when not in used, so really this cracks are some kind of glass flaw or some, has anyone experience the same type of issues with this gauges, and will the warranty cover it
i purchase the boat new on 07 and it still has one year left on an extended warranty I purchase from Liberty Protection I'm posting a picView attachment 32077

Hello, Im in the process of buying a 2006 dancer and I have seen the same type of cracks in the guage faces. im having a survey done on the boat. I cant wait to see what our surveyer has to say about it. Do you think we can get new lens for the guages or do you have to replace the guage?

I've experienced the same thing. If your gauge is still under warranty contact your dealer and/or MERCRUISER Volvo whatever and demand a new one. I promise that the lense will fog up when you need it most and you won't be able to read it. Next, the gauge actually has 2 plastic lenses. An inner and outer. I actually pryed off the outer lense, doing some damage to the housing of the lense. The outer lense had the crack. I threw it out. I then cleaned up the inner lense and used clear ge2 caulk around the housing. Let it dry and put bezel back on. Reinstalled and it is crystal clear now and operating normal. My gauge was out of warranty. MERCRUISER has the new gauges made with 2 glass lenses?? Wonder why? Reason is that the cheap plastic lenses break down with uv light, heat, stress, etc causing fractures in the lense. If you are out of warranty argue that the smartcraft ($450)gauge is defective and unreadable due to poor design. Then argue that if there wasn't a problem with the plastic lenses then why did they switch to glass? Good luck!

Just got word from the marina supposed the warranty covers the gauge but not the lens they claim that the gauge still in good operational condition and is only cosmetic. I had the Marina tech call and talk to the manager at the warranty company and same results it sucks cause I know they will fog up and my warranty spires next spring
Any advise ????

Let the smoke out of the gauge then see how it works!

I read the little fold brochure they give you when you buy the warranty and it says the gauge heads are cover, no mention of not the glass it just says GAUGE HEADS so I guess I have an argument with this people coming, just wondering if anyone had issues with this warranty company

Call MERCRUISER and advise what the dealer told you. If you can't read the gauge who cares if its operational? It WILL fog. Stand strong on your insistence for a new gauge. Stress cracks are NOT supposed to happen. The lense is defective I wentbthroughnthe fight

This is what I got so far the warranty stays on coverage

Components: Helm control, throttle/shift control box. Speedometer & Tachometer Components: Speedometer head, tachometer head, speed log, and speed sensor.
Gauges: Voltmeter, fuel gauge, trim position gauge, oil pressure gauge, water pressure gauge, and Engine water temperature gauge.

It also says that

Said that

THIS AGREEMENT WILL NOT APPLY TO:

Appearance, trim, non-moving chassis or body parts are not covered. These parts include, but are not limited to, paint and trim items, wheels, upholstery and chrome parts, lenses and windshields.
So where M I on this

Mitch man thank you for your advise but I just trying to figure out if any one had dealt with a similar issue and if so how they resolved that's all
this insurance company's do t like to cover claims I'm Aware of that but I'm going to argue it

But again big thank u from the Windy City

Last resort is to "make" the tach un operational. Or buy a new tach and swap out the 'not defective' tach and return it. The new tach comes with a plastic wrap type of film on top of lense. Put film back on and return.

I just going to argue with the insurance that this is not cosmetic like they claim, the purpose of the glass is not to improve the gauge appearance but to protect the unit, so if the glass brakes Allowing moist in it will eventually stop working so the glass purpose is not only cosmetic. But to seal the unit, so if the glass is broken the the Gauge is no longer in GOOD working onditions and it should be cover

Any ways is worth a shot will post the results when I get them I have to e mail the warranty some Picts for them to review Monday
