I have a slip at a marina in the heart of downtown Boston. I imagine that it would be very popular if someone wanted to visit Boston for a week. Next year will be my first boating season. Do people swap slips for vacation? I'd be interested in swapping a slip with someone on Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard. How do people find each other to make these arrangements?

I love this idea, but it can be tough... I know at my marina, when I leave for any reason, the slip belongs to the marina to rent to a transient, not to me. That's pretty much the norm down here in MD, unless of course you own your slip and that's another story all together!

Same here at the marina I stay at in the winter. I have to tell them where I'm going even if I'm just out for the day or they'll stick someone in my slip.... they've done it.

If you start slip swapping, what's next? Sharing anchors? Sharing fenders? Touching bumpers? Boating with the top down? Unprotected bottoms? Raising your outdrives?
