Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post...

First time boat owner (nervous about docking) just bought a used 2005 280DA twin 5.0 Bravo 3 engines.

I know the beam is 9.5 ft. Can you recommend the size slip I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance.

30' minimum. 40' would be even nicer, if the cost is not prohibitive. I had a 290 DA in a 40' slip one time, and loved it. The extra length keeps the evening sun and blowing rain off the boat better. Some marinas have restrictions on whay size boat goes in what size slip....your results may vary.

gnealon,

As a quick answer, I have a 290 DA which is almost the exact size of your boat. I dock in a 30' x 12' slip quite comfortably. If you are too wide, say 14', you will find access to your boat such as washing and polishing very clumsy.

ahh... OK, that is what I was looking to find out. Thanks. The marina near me has so many different width slips. Had no idea what to choose! haha Thanks a lot.

Thanks a lot Southpaw! Just curious, how does the length of the slip help with the sun and rain?

I dock my 280 in a 30 x 12 slip. With twins, you will have no problem maneuvering in and out. This leave about 1 foot of boat that is not under cover. Since I back in to my slip, the anchor and spot light are the only part of the boat not under cover.

Southpaw II,lope4946,

I think i know what you mean about "cover", "rain" and "sun". Around me, all the slips are out in the open :-/

Make sure you know how they measure the printed width of the slips you are looking at. A marina here measure the width as center of piling to center of finger pier. So you are losing some width that way. Also the length is limited to how far out in the fairway you or the marina will want/allow your bow to protrude.

Yea...sorry about that. Covered slips are the norm in my area. That extra covered area adds so much protection. The only boats in our area, and many parts of the South that are uncovered are sailboats.

We have a 40ft by 14ft slip for ours. It has the best view of the lake. You never know when the boat will magically increase in size, just add water.
