Sleeping on our cruiser

High water bildge alarms will also wake you if you have them.

I tried the anchor alarms, and found they would go off when the wind direction or current changed, and it did not help me much... I much perfer to raft up with multiple anchors out...

If you don't have a high water bilge alarm, install one. They're inexpensive and worth the piece of mind. If they do go off, you'll hear them and have time to get yourself out of the cabin, see what is going on and maybe even fix it.

The anchor alarms work well to relieve any anxiety about the anchor losing its set. I use the one on my Garmin chartplotter, but they are all similar. You just have to set them correctly. Set the alarm as soon as your anchor drops into the water and try to stay over that point until it reaches bottom. Then give yourself enough distance depending on your scope. No matter which way you swing during the night due to changing winds and currents, it won't go off unless your anchor moves.

Sleeping at the Marina is as safe as sleeping at a Motel but you can talk until you're blue in the face and it most likely wont change her mind. Try picking up one of these (click on the word these I was not referring to the photo below)and place it right next to where she sleeps, I know the high water bilge pump has an alarm on it so this is redundant but it's something she can see and it's less than $10. Put the sensor in the bilge and test it in front of her. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector in case some knoodnick in the Marina runs his gen or motor at night and tries to kill you in your sleep. If all this fails you might explain to her that all the Dock Bunnies are yammering to spend the night on any boat. That being said you may be using the boat as your permanent resident. Good luck

Uhh?!?... I have a wife?

Hi water bilge alarm will be installed next week. I do want to make it as comfortable as I can, she is willing to give it a try so that's all I can ask for. Wish me luck

I'm trying to convince my wife to do an over night stay on our ... first trip this coming Memorial Day too. She said no. :) Understandable.

I'll probably have to take her out on at least a couple of short trips - on calm days first ;)

We do it all the time and there are 4 of us plus 2 chocolate labs. Try at the dock first to get her used to it. Add gel toppers to the beds to make her more comfortable, too,

I spent a fortune on a custom made mattress, we stayed on the boat straight after that, copped a bit of swell on the hook, and the wife avoided it after that.

Took me 14 months for another opportunity. That was 3 weeks ago. Made sure we pulled into a calm bay, picked up a mooring. And she loved it, wasn't ready to come home the next afternoon, an has a renewed vigour in decorating the cabin
