Hi All. I'm considering replacing my 240 Sundeck with a 260 Sundeck. Is it too big to water ski with? We do a lot of water sports off of our 240. Thanks!

Not too big... eat up more fuel though!

Welcome to CSR!

i would go to a 100' rope to get a smaller wave to deal with. When I was younger and slalmon skied I had a 19.5 ' boat that was great and when my kids got bigger we bought a 21.5' baja with a 5.7 merc. I hated skiing behind that boat because of the big wave it made. It's not that you can't ski behind it but I don't know how fun it will be.

You can ski behind it but the wake will be horrible. As dvx mentioned, get a 100' rope to make it bearable.

Totally doable. Was just skiing, boarding, tubing with a new 270SD this weekend.

FYI... the 260SD is pretty much the same size as your 240SD.

Good point, in 2008 when we bought our 2008 240SD we considered the 260SD as well but there was marginal difference in size so we saved a bunch of $$ and went with the 240SD.

I should clarify, if you're accustom to skiing behind a MasterCraft or Nautique then the wake for the 260 will be horrible by comparison. If you're a casual skier then 260 will be OK, still rough, but ok.

I ski behind a 270 SD and the wake is too small for my tastes, but I like a giant wake. Skiing with 6 people and the tube for 4 hours, we used 12 gallons in a 496 mag. Hard to quantify, but the fuel used is negligible for the fun enjoyed.

How did you use so little fuel? I pulled a 1 person tube for an hour and used 1/4 tank (25 gallons). I have a 350 MAG.

I was pleasantly surprised as well. I reset the Smartcraft fuel consumption meter prior to launching. Maybe the big engine is just loafing at tubing speeds of 18, where we are just barely planning. I can only slalom ski for about 2 minutes with my old bones. We put 1.8 hours total on the boat, and plenty of that was idle. The tube was in the water with 2-3 riders for a long time. Maybe 40 minutes of total run time.

I have had the 350 and 6.2 in a 240 SD, (not at the same time, although that would be awesome) and although the literature says that the 496 uses more fuel, it doesn't seem to at low speeds. Certainly when wide open.

At elevation of 5000 feet, the boat makes less power, and the fuel injection system adjusts the metering and we have slightly less fuel flows.
