In case anyone was looking, I found the bottom of the St Lawrence River last fall. In the process it destroyed my Skeg, spun the hub and damaged the prop. I had the hub and the prop repaired. the Skeg is off starting about 1/2 below the bell housing. A nice straight line of missing Skeg. (bell housing is not cracked)
Local prop shop said $300 to fix it. Question is... on my boat (2 engines) is a Skeg a functional component that i would notice a change in performance if it was repaired. I understand its main function is to protect the prop from the random light impact in the water, but does it actually assist with steering to a noticable degree?
I can take a picture and post if needed.
