Ok guys took a junk out of my skeq (Was not driving the boat see flushing thread :smt021 ) Took it to my local Merc Mechanic. My thought was to pull the drive and have it welded/filled. He talked me into putting a Skeq Guard on it. We talked about the corrosion issue. Said it was a problem on the earlier models and salt water, but has not had a problem with it on the newer models. Looking to hear what others have to say. Looks good on the drive. The only thing I've noticed is about a 1mph drop on the top end.

Thanks Chuck

I'll be interested in the same. Better to be safe then sorry and I think I'll be ok with going 1mph slower

As long as you are not wet slipped there will be no problems with galvanic corrosion.

But, I would definitely not have one if I was in a wet slip. The reason Bravo III's corrode so much is because of all the stainless steel on those two big props. Adding another huge hunk of stainless to the skeg will make the corrosion worse. Even if you are wet slipped with proper mercathode protection, you will get some corrosion and most of it is concentrated around the prop hub and on the skeg itself. Take a look at the pictures I posted of mine in this posting. http://www.byowneryachts.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3066&highlight=paint+painted

Yep we do Wet slip year round :smt017 Even after a year and half did not have the kind of corrosion you had on yours in 8 months  We do pull it a bunch for road trips.

Don't worry about it now Chuck. After it sits in the water for several more months pull the Skeg Guard off and check for corrosion underneath. You can always have the skeg fixed later if you need to get rid of the Skeg Guard because of corrosion....................that's if your skeg doesn't desolve by then :wow: .

Just kidding about the disolving part   .

When I get some down time this winter plan to pull it and then let them weld it
