Sirius/XM Radio

Sirius and XM went bankrupt when they merged. Each alone was good at what it did. Together, they suck at everything they attempt. I am surprised the merger survived thus far.

Great. Now I have to go look that up again.

Darn those internet fact checkers!

But regarding XM/Sirrus on a boat: I changed stereos a year or two ago. Had an iPod input, and a seperate 6 disk changer. Never got around to installer the changer. The iPod seems to work fine for everything we do, and we never have to worry about "bring the favorite music", as the gizmo has our entire library on it.

totally agree with dpmulveny. They suck. Mel Karmazin is a putz and the service has gone down hill after the first year. Why anyone would put up 500m deserves what they get!

I will not renew my subscription....don't want to pay and then have them go belly up.
I can buy an Ipod for the 1 year fee is my thinking

I just don't get the whole MP3 player thing. Even if it has 1000 songs on it, it's still stuff I put on and it doesn't surprise me when a particular song comes on. I prefer to have absolutely NO idea what's next and to say once in a while, "HOLY CRAP, I haven't heard that in probably 25 years!!" (like when I heard Aldo Nova's "Fantasy" or Saga's "On the Loose" or "So You Ran" by Orion the Hunter). But hey, that's just me (gotta LOVE that good 80s cheese!)

I get surprised all the time. I sync my Ipod and then find all the new interest hip hop my kids have downloaded. They did surprise me in a good way once by downloading Back in Black...

Sirius/XM works well when we raft up with friends and we can all have the same music on. Other than that I use the Ipod.

Ditto, the wife bought me an IPOD for Christmas and I already downloaded every Chicago, Beattles (both Brit and US albums), all of Sara McLachlan, Three Dog Night, the Eagles, Journey, Eric Clapton, Buddy Holly, Dion, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Platters, and CCR... 134 albums and 1813 songs so far... (yes, I'm an old guy)

Some even have the lyrics listed during play... :smt038
I'm done with XM...

There is nothing better than hanging with friends and that 1 kick a$$ song comes on and you go running for the volume knob.

Doesn't get any better than that!!

Agreed. Unfortunately it's usually shortly followed by my wife yelling at me to turn it down.

I have Sirius, CD, FM, and Ipod controls all at the helm with my new snazzy new Clarion Head unit and 4 channel amp with LCD display remote. Just installed the new system today and I love it. It is nice to have options. I get XM (I think limited stations though) via DirectTV while at the dock as well.

Main thing for me is options. My Ipod has over 6000 songs. what I also like about Ipod is the Podcasts you can DL and subscribe to for free. Lots of good stuff out there. Another great thing is the playlists which you can customize for winding up and also while winding down. Sirius cannot do this. Again, options. Only problem is I cannot get Sirius at the dock since it is covered. I also stream Radio 365 from my Verizon broadband hookup via laptop. Maybe I have too many options after all....

Not sure if I will re up my Sirius contract this fall.

I haven't verified it yet but a friend told me today there is a Sirius app on the way for the Iphone. Cant wait!!

OK, my wife was given an XM unit with 6 months of programming, she has Sirius in her vehicle, I am an AM talk kind of guy. I was thinking about putting the unit on the boat. Question: since they merged, do they have the same programming? I don't see some of my interests on the XM line-up on the box, is the packaging just old, or should I not bother?

They have converged on programming now. I would goto either web site and take a look. The names of some stations have changed but the programing is similar.

The price is going up too now... It is getting expensive to have 3-4 units now. I may be dumping 1-2 and using slacker on my iphone..
