simrad user info please

I am looking heavily at the simrad evo nss series for a new to us boat this spring, will be starting with most likely nss9 with 3g radar. BUT, I have been looking at the garmin series stuff because, well, thats what i am familiar with. So my main question is about the embedded charts. Simrad uses insight and you can purchase cmap or navionics. Garmin's coastal charts would come with their units. I believe the garmin coastal charts would be their best for cruising lake michigan. Anyone know about the simrad charts? Will we need to purchase better charts right off the bat? No fishing, just cruising

I have the nss8 model from Simrad I don't think you have to upgrade immediately I like the insight charts. I also have the Garmin app on my IPad. There are some aspects (channel and land) on the insight maps that are better than Garmin and others (marker symbols) that I prefer on Garmin.

The navionics, platinum plus chart chip is worth the money imo.

I agree that is an upgrade I would like to do. Maybe this year.
