Due to the design of the bow anchor roller bracket, I have to manually deploy the anchor with enough rode to just suspend the anchor vertically, position the boat to where I wish to deploy the anchor and release it.
The issue I am having is the windlass will not hold the anchor vertically (25 lb) and will slowly let it lower while I am making my way back to the helm.
I do not know if this is normal operation. I have reviewed the manual which indicates moving the power switch to up will engage the braking system however to no avail.
I am not sure if the unit has ever been rebuilt (if possible) or what the best course of action may be, and in turn looking for your expert advice as always.

Thanks
Ken

Issue resolved.
Previous owner has wrapped black electrical tape around a foot or so of the chain rode. Not sure why unless to provide a marker when retrieving the anchor. Of course, wear and tear on the tape clogged the gypsy wheel mechanism.
Now removed, and with a slight jog upwards to set the brake the windlass works fine.
