Silverton

I have been on several Silverton 'sportfish' models and I really like the layouts. Last year at the Miami boat show, the Silvertons stood out as one of the models we really liked at the end of the week. The fit and finish seem to be just as good, if not better, than most of the production boats on the market. The layout is very large and very functional. I think you would be impressed.

Hey Pack,
Can you please freeze that dance you are using as your sig pic? I can't read any of your responses that are more than a few words because I'm too distracted. :smt101

All I will add to this is that I would rather be out on any of these boats than watching from the dock.

Except maybe the Mariner or the whale:

I'm a little late to this discussion after our vacation, but here's my input:

First, I grew up around Sea Ray's up to 34' and had a strong brand loyalty. When we moved up from a 1991 280WE, we found a 37' Silverton Flybridge Convertible that was the perfect fit for us.

Now that we've had it for four years, I can make some observations:

1) I feel it gets a bad rap from some as a "value" brand. Some of the fit and finish is not exactly what we found on our Sea Rays, but then again it works for us when we look at what we got for the money ($84K in 2007).

2) We absolutely love the cavernous interior and exterior space. With only one stateroom (a drawback for many), the salon and kitchen/dinette are huge. I'm 6'5" and get almost claustrophobic on some larger boats that try to cram in more cabins. We have 3 kids, who sleep on the dinette, sofa, and floor. There is room left over for their friends. Granted, there is only one lav, but we like the space and the separate shower.

3) Performance: we are on an inland waterway (OH River), so we don't usually have to fight rough seas or get anywhere fast. Good thing, as it would benefit from a pair of diesels. Frank warned me about that before I bought it. Having said that, most of our cruising is under 2000 RPM anyway. It will plane out at 3500 RPM and 0.65 mpg with the twin EFI 454 Crusaders.

4) Handling: Awesome around the marina, no prop pockets. In the few instances where we found ourselves returning in rough seas (white caps, 35 knot winds), we found it interesting that we had to increase RPMs a little for a better ride while our friends were slowing down. The thing is built like a tank and rides like it was made for bigger water.

5) Overall: It's been a great boat for us. We have it brokered to downsize and find a waterfront property, but will miss it when it goes.

My advice would be look around. There are examples of good boats around from every manufacturer, so it pays to keep your eyes open.
