Here is my tow rig. This was taken when I first picked up the boat two years ago. The trailer you see fairly quickly went back to the dealer for a heavier model.

The truck is a pretty standard Dodge/Cummins 2001 6-speed manual. This is a good tow vehicle for the 10,000 lb boat and trailer. It is not a great soccer mom rig. With the boat trailer setup, I only have about 750 lbs of tongue weight, the truck would like 1200 lb better. On the new trailer, I would need to move the axles back to get more tongue weight, which is possible. However, it may impair the operation of the trailer brake actuator if the tongue hitch assembly is carrying too much weight. Electric over hydraulic brake control for the trailer would be nice, so I could control the trailer braking with the electric brake controller.

With the 5th wheel attached, I do have 1500 lb on the rear of the PU. Steering is better with the 5th wheel attached than without, it is very well balanced that way.

Mileage pulling the boat or 5th wheel is about 12 MPG. Pulling both I have not tried, since I don't like in Montana.

Here's something we picked up on the way home from the Grand Canyon last summer.....

Our boat even matches our neighbors house perfectly. Most people think it's great that we allow the neighbor to park his boat on our property!

This pic is of my wifes 2002 Jeep Wrangler. It has towed the boat locally to the ramp a few times or pulled it in/out of the water from our backyard ramp. Of course we only resort to this if my truck is broke down or something like that.

This is my 1999 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 with 223K miles on her that I normally use to tow the boat or any other of my trailers.

Here's my last tow vehicle.......a 3/4 ton Club Wagon with tow package and a 7.3 L Diesel engine. We've stopped the trailer boat thing and no longer use the van, so I'm going to sell it. If you need a dependable kid hauler/tow vehicle that will pull your house if you could hook to it, send me a PM.........

That's because you keep posting those darn "crystal clear water" pictures... Now if you post the "real color of water" pictures like this... you get 50 MB of space!

Guys the pictures look good but just a reminder when posting pictures try to keep them less than 600 wide. If you are not sure right click on the picture and go to properties and this will tell you the width of the pictures.
