Timely thread as we lost our anchor this weekend. Anyone know whst was orginally fitted, brand and size? What other brand and sizes will fit 400 sea rays roller set up? Would a CQR shake and rattle too much on a power boat? We had great success with a 35 db CQR on our 34 ft sailboat.
Would greatly appreciate hearing others experience with roller setup on our boats.
Part of the reason we lost the anchor was the rope would slip on the gypsy even though there was enough slack in the rope it could be easily pulled in. Maybe the gypsy needed adjusting or maybe the rope was too worn. The rope snapped while I tried to get the bow over the anchor in very high winds, it may have caught on a summerged log near the shore we were getting too close to.

The 400DB had a 45lb plow anchor.

I had slipping in my rope splice, even after replacing the tension spring and spring finger. That stopped with the new rope rode. When replacing the rope, mine was turning to dust, so if it was original rope that could have been your issue.

CQR's are great anchors but there is newer tech that suits powerboats a bit better. Rocna, Mantis and Aquamarine all make a modified plow are anchor that have equal or better setting/holding power than a CQR.

What Scott wrote is true but in the soft mud of the Chesapeake Bay tests by Fortress that were reviewed by Practical Sailor CQR plows were as good or better than the newer designs which are good for hard bottoms and sand. I dont think a straight shank Fortress will fit that well in our rollers but am curious if anyone here has tried a CQR in their Sea Ray.

Did you mark the location where you lost it? There is a guy on TF who dives for anchors all the time in the mid-bay area. What area of the Bay are you located in?

Interesting. I'm curious if you had problems prior to installing this. I ask because, in my particular setup, I have yet to see the anchor come up in the wrong orientation, so for me it would be a solution looking for a problem.
I can count on one hand the number of times my anchor has come up in the proper direction. It’s not difficult for me to reorient it but my admiral seems to struggle with the concept.
