Should you buy a gun or not?

I leaned back in the chair and quite unexpectedly, a mouse jumped out of the hole in the front of the seat. It scared the bejesus out of me so, operating purely on reaction, I drew from the seated position and shot that flippin' mouse before he'd gone 5 feet.

I'm not sure who was the most scared/startled....me or the guys on the firing line who had some dumb shit crank off a round from behind them. Word of that never got back to my department.

Now after further review, and me being the only one present now and who was present then, I can imagine that write-up might have seemed a bit of a stretch. For the record, I spend countless hours at the range just walking around, holstered and snapped, and letting my eyes wander around items on the ground.

When I would spot something on the ground I would draw and snap shoot at the item. It might have been a stone, a piece of sagebrush or cactus, whatever. It was all part of training my eyes and my muscles to work together. When I first started practicing that way I could usually get the bullet to hit within a foot or two of the target. After doing that for a few years I had my bullets coming within an inch or two and the more I practiced the closer the bullets got to the target item. Of course it helped that all of my ammo was paid for by the department.

It’s 30. They made lots of different barrels for it but had to find them now. I lucked out as a kid picking a good one. I spent all my summer job money on that gun, just in time for hunting season.
What do you shoot where you live with a 30" barrel on a shot gun . I would think its full choke.

I bought it for ducks and geese mostly. It has the screw in Winchoke system with 3 interchangeable chokes. Imp cyl, modified, and full. I plan to use it on turkey too.

I have one, but keep it in the house. I don't have a concealed weapon license.

If I'm out, and run into problems, might just be my time to go!

I thought I had one of these, took a look, and I do. It would be hard to tell from new. I only remember shooting a few boxes on shells at clay pigeons with it. I've got two fixed choke barrels for mine, 26" imp cy, and 30" full choke.

I need to do a bit of a search for a barrel like that 26" imp cyl. If that's the one with the vented rib, that's the same one I want. I think you can shoot deer slugs with the imp cylinder too. Deer hasn't been my thing though in many years. I sold my 300 savage probably 35 years ago. I wasn't using it at all. Funny I just found a sleeve of ammo for it last week when I opened up my box to see what 12ga shells I had. I'll have to find someone to give them to.

Bought a Kimber Micro 9 today. Going to indoor range tomorrow to see how i really like it. Holds 7 rounds and will fit inside the belt/pants. Has the laser sight in the grip. If I can point it as good as it feels I will love it.

Been checking them out. Already picked out a holster. Check it out.

They make a loop instead of a clip on version. I can't decide as I like the security of the loop but also like to be able to remove the holster without undoing my belt.

Probably the Raptor or the Stainless.
The stainless is the baby brother to my 45.

I usually don't carry so much on person unless I feel I need protection. When thats the case I just don't go. But when I do not so sure I want to open that to get a hold of the gun. But I like it, Here in Ky we all can carry regardless, my biggest issue is that Wv and Ohio is on our door steps and I am in both several times a week.
Now that I have nothing to do I am going to get my CCW , that Wv and OH accept.
One thing I will add is that I always have a gun in the truck, Constitution allows that, would it cause me a problem yes, but I can stand to fight it.

This thread has stirred some interest in me. I've made it a point to not go in gun stores for many years but I think I'm going to check out some of these little handguns. I've got a Colt Compact, can't hardly imagine having less grip to hold onto than that.

Another thing I need to do is some practicing. The darn squirrels are chewing the heck out of some of my trees. I grabbed my Mod 41, stepped out the door to shoot one...and I didn't hit shit. The squirrel ran off, I think he was laughing at me. Then when I came back in the house my wife said 'you ain't got it anymore do you, maybe try the rifle next time.'

I am in same boat sir. Shot at a coyote out back with a rifle I used to shoot a lot and it just looked at me then trotted off. Actually went to a indoor range earlier this week, intend on going weekly until it warms up . Been buying ammo also. Damn it ain't cheap.
Paid $769 a case (1250 rds) for 5.56, 20a box 50 of 9mm. Oh well we are not burning fuel in the boat at least. When summer comes it will be spent on fuel again.

Here’s that kimber micro 9

just got back from the range. The Kimber is a nice gun. I was more accurate with it at 21' than a 38special snub noose I pack. However took the old Mark II and I must say its night and day.

I always run into that comparison. Shooting my S&W mod 41 everything else is a letdown, always got to remind myself what the guns are designed for.
