In a recent thread Jim noted the data storage that threads of no long term value consume. If they do not already should these threads expire after 30 days of no new posts?

What should expire are the posters that clog up these threads with pedantic or self- aggrandizing crap.

We should also have a minimum boat size! Under 58 feet you cannot post !!!!

That would thin it out pretty quick! Maybe while we are at it, we should limit all posts to Sea Ray owners only as well:wow: :grin:

Hey Autovette, I'd love to see that setup of the SR on davits. Post some pix!

Pump out the holding tank...What long term value would thread(s) be in the Tiki Bar forum? Just asking.....

I don't really care either way but I have to wonder how much space plain text really consumes. I may be wrong but I have to think these threads are stored as plain text in the database then merged with all the html stuff and signature pictures, etc when the thread is accessed.

I guess that all depends on what storage resources are available on the CSR hosting servers. If we are in the Gigabytes range then I can see where some impact could be had eventually. If there are Terabytes, well, that is alot of data capacity, especially for text.

Not just storage, what about relevance? Do we need to save this stuff?

I agree some of the stuff does not need to be saved. My post was mainly addressing the reference to data storage made in the original post. I guess my question was, why is there even a concern unless storage space is running low and to make the point that if stored as plain text, posts really shouldn't take up a ton of space. That of course depends on what space is available.

I am sure there are some threads in the Tiki Bar and HT that would be interesting and possibly informative to others in the future but many would be useless. Other than an expiration, how would one decide which ones go and which ones stay?

I agree with your assessment

After a closerer reviewing the Tiki Bar content I will change my opinion and vote yes to remove.
Sorry for the flip flop but I must be honest.
