Never really used this on my boat before since we really haven't been at a marina full time. Anyway, do you need to have the fresh water pump running to get decent pressure? Does the hose bypass the fresh water tank?

Yes, the shore water bypasses the water tank and goes directly into the distribution manifold. (This is how it works on the 280 and up, I would think the 260 is the same)
I've used the water pump in conjunction with city water when taking showers. Keep in mind that it really isn't boosting the pressure, but rather making up for pressure shortfalls in the city water. (It's all pressure based, and which ever source has the higher pressure wins) Also keep in mind that if the water pump is running, it is drawing from the freshwater tank, so you will eventually empty it. (Water will continue to flow from the faucet if city water is connected as the city water pressure now being greater will be the source)
