The marina I left had a straight 3 prong female dock plug and it worked fine. I'm really stumped.

Can you post a picture of what you have on your boat?

I have never seen a marina that did not have either 30A twist lock, 50A twist lock, or just standard 3 prong outlets, like at home, generally 15A. Not sure what you mean by "straight 3 prong female dock plug".

I too, want to see a photo of your marina side and the boat side. What cord were you using?

The marina has a 20 amp female twist plug. My boat has a standard plug, like a house hold. Just got the boat, that's what it came with. Worked fine at last marina that had a standard house type female outlet.

At 31 years old, common sense says you can't assume the cord you have is original to the boat. 30amp is pretty much standard for many smaller cruisers. Are you the only cruiser around your dock with shore power? If not, just ask around and see what everyone else is using. Does your marina have a store? If so, I'm sure they can get you the right adapter and/or new cord.

EDIT:
You mentioned you were mad at the marina for not telling you what the hook-up was/is at your slip... But if you used your existing cord at your previous marina and "everything worked fine", that was either 15a or 20a... so you should be just fine here, as well, no?

The black, 3-prong 15a plug can't be the boat side. If so, you have some sort of Frankenstein's monster setup.

Are you sure your cord is one piece... as opposed to having an adapter in there? FYI, that yellow cord/connector is a 20a connector.

BUT... Let's stop running around in circles here. Forget about what "came with the boat". What does your boat have for a connection and what does the marina have for a connection? Those are the only two pieces of the puzzle you need to focus on. Get the proper cord for your boat, then get whatever adapter you need to hook into the dock.

In response to my asking if you could post a picture of what you have on your boat, you posted two pictures.
1. A (yellow) female 30 Amp twist lock receptacle.
2. A male 15 amp plug.
Does that mean you have a (yellow) female 30 amp receptacle mounted on the side of your boat? That isn’t typical.
If that’s the case, That could be a part of your problem. There should be a 30 amp male mounted on the side of your boat.
Does the shorepower cord you used at your previous marina have males on both ends?
Is it possible a previous owner installed a female instead of a male on the side of the boat by mistake or for some unique reason?
You may want to swap the female receptacle on the boat for a proper male with a flip down cover.
That will enable you to use a standard 30 amp shore power cord. You would connect the female end of the cord to your boat, and the male end to the receptacle on the dock.
If the dock doesn’t have a 30 amp receptacle, then you could use the Marine 30-20 adapter I posted in an earlier reply.
If the picture of the yellow receptacle you posted is not a picture of what is mounted on the side of your boat, then if you can take a picture of what is on the side of your boat we can probably help you better.

The actual plug is yellow and no adapter in line. I don't know what the last owner did. Screwed up setup but it worked at last marina. .

If you look close on the yellow female it's marked 20 amp. The end that goes into boat is standard plug in, the end that goes to shore is the 3 prong standard household plug.

The black one is a plug, the yellow one is a receptacle. Proper terminology would make this issue a lot clearer

OK, so the previous owner was Dr. F. OK, now it's making more sense. You mentioned your boat "has 30a shore power". BUT... is it possible you were reading about the "optional equipment" that would have come from the factory? It sounds like your boat originally didn't have that option and a PO did some type of DIY setup.

For safety, I think you need to go through the whole electrical system and make sure it's up to snuff. There could have been shortcuts made in installing it that could prove dangerous. Or, even better, have it checked out by a qualified marine tech. This is NOT a place to take a chance. Get it checked to make sure it's safe.

Better still, remove anything and everything the PO did and start fresh with a normal 30a setup!

I guess I have a screwed up set up. 20 amp female dock side, standard plug into boat and end that plugs into shore power is a 3 prong household looking end. What a mess. The darn thing worked at last marina. Strange.
