Bought the 290 I've been looking at. Spent all day today checking her out and getting familar with everything. Boy there is a lot of stuff on one of these boats. I did not take it out because I can't get it registered or insured until tomorrow. Ran it on shore power all day. A/C works good, fridge will freeze a coke in the top. I found a leak at the fresh water pump when I filled the tank. Just a loose connection. Also found about a quart of foul smelling water under the shower drain pump. It appeared to have been there a good while by the smell. I ran a lot of water in the shower & the pump works good. Could not find a leak. I am assuming the A/C drip pan also drains to this pump? Another question I had was, I thought the Kohler gen was raw water cooled but there is an exspansion tank on it that appears to have antifreeze in it. Is there an internal cooler that cools it? Also my boat has a "GOOD" Windlass on it. How in the world do you add a section of chain to your anchor? I don't think it will feed thru the windlass. Sorry to be so long winded but I think I really got the Bug!!

Congratulations on the boat! In my 1990 model the a/c drain also goes to the shower sump. The generator probably has a heat exchanger with a raw water pump to cool the tank you see. And you're probably correct about the windlass, some are designed to handle rope only. Mine is. You can probably get an owners manual for the windlass online. Good luck with the bug!

The generator has a closed cooling system. Raw water is used for the heat exchanger, exhaust. A/C drains to shower sump. Try putting some Oxy Clean in the sump to clear up the odor.

I do have the book for the windlass but it doesn't mention using chain. I may have room for about 30" of chain. Do you use stainless so rust doesn't drip on the deck? Also didn't think about Oxy-clean Thanks for all the info.

Congratulations on the 290, a nice boat. It seems having water below the shower sump is fairly common. I have read on these forums that a leaking window could cause water to run down the wall, behind cabinets and into the bilge area in this location but outside of the sump...

I have 20 feet of chain attached to my anchor, then another 220 feet of line attached. The windlass (different brand than yours) handles it all just fine. The line is spliced onto the last link of chain.

Does any one know the part number for the drip pan of a Kohler 5ECD?

Hello Nicholas, you have posted to a 7 year old thread that has little to do with a Kohler generator.

Start a new, aptly titled thread.

Here you go. You might want to try the generator section next time. You may get a quicker response.
