When I picked up my boat it had some markings on it from a sharpie. I tried acetone and even engine degreaser and a lot of elbow grease it faded it but didn't take it off was going to try compound and a wheel in the spring. and I did try goof off. any help? Thanks

Was the shaprie on the hull/fiberglass or on the vinyl seats? Inside the cabin or outside in the cockpit? Any other details?

I use methanol (Methyl alcohol) to remove sharpie marks here in the lab. Not readily available, though. Try Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.

I just heard on the radio this morning that a lady used toothpaste to remove permanent marker from her walls. Hey if if comes in bulk it may make your hull & seats whiter.

Another thing that works amazingly well on permanent marker is hair spray. However, the marker has been on there so long, who knows what will work best. Possibly even a product like FSR or Y10. I agree that I would try any and all chemicals before getting into sanding. If that marker has leached deep down deep into the gel, you may end up sanding away the gel before you remove the marker. Hard to tell though through a forum.

No clue if this would help - permanent marker on a white board is easily removed using coffee. Dip a paper towel in the cup, marks come right off.

Try Brake clean. If it has not penetrated the gel coat it will take it off. Hopefully there was a good coat of wax on it.
Tell us about your Sandy purchase and how you made it with it.

I bought it online from a company called cooper capital
Theirs abou three company that sell savage boats. I boughten 390 from them they advertise that it sunk. Looking at the pics I didn't think it did. I went to see it it had good oil and motor spun. I brought a jump box and it started. I found the paper work from original owner he told me engine room got a foot of water. And the insurance company totaled it. I bought in July and had it in the water a week later

I love it when a guy makes a buy and everything works out. Was the cabin and seating in good shape or did you need to redo it?
Any smell or mold problems?
Bob

Well I've got two things that will take it off. Stuff called dykem remover works very well. 1st I'd try simple hand sanitizer. The alcohol in it will remove the marker.

The seating was all redone when I spoke to the old owner he said he paid almost 8k for have all seats covered. the camper collapsed I had a canvas look at he just had to sew the part that goes around the pole frame. the inside smelled of mold and I couldn't get rid of it. I kept getting water in the forward compartment. that's when I learned that the freshwater tank was leaking. once I pumped it out the smell went away. The motors only have 700 hours and the gen has 239 I tried so many things to clean the marker. I also have the sticker resado I'm trying to take off. Ill post some pics of it before I bought it. It was kind of strange finding the old owners clothes and personal stuff still in the boat. he bought it 2004 and had it fully insured 8 days after Sandy he got a check for 82k

Here are some pics. Having a problem uploading. This is from storm. A week after I bought it driving it home. Had to make repairs right away. The fuel lines were cut and all gas was pumped out. The sea water pump and both alt ac pump along with fridge were stolen.

It appears that you did rather well with the entire deal.
Just curious and I have to ask but, you do not need to answer.
Purchase price?
Repair cost?
Did you come out whole on the deal?
