Shaft size ????

I have been waiting to ask this question for fear of sounding like a big dummy.

I am going to by zincs tonight for my 2005 290AJ. I recently purchased the boat and it didnt have zinc's on the shafts. I want to put them on. How do I measure the size of the shaft? I measured the circumference to be 5". When I do the calculations it comes up 1.59, right in between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4. I have measured a piece of string and put it around a piece of pipe that I knew was 1 1/2" and it was the closest fit but it was slightly off. Any help with this?

Shafts are specified by diameter, length and metallurgy. Yours are 1.5" X 68" aquamet 19, so you are shopping for 1-1/2" zincs.

Good point! I hate returning things, love getting it right the first time. This forum is a great place, the amount of Sea Ray knowledge here is amazing. A lot of great people!!:smt038

do you believe the shaft zinc will change the performance of the boat? at any speed?

I dont think so but I am really new to all of this. I am putting them on as a precaution only. I'd rather do more than less.
