Shady Ebay listings

Damn and I already wired them the 10k for the boat and 5k for the quick shipping!

So were the adds from the same person? had they sold anything before?

When I was trying to sell my truck 2 years ago, someone tried to pull a scam on me. All the emails were sent in the middle of the night (ie oversea person). I had the time so I just yanked their chain. told them I didn't get the check. They sent another. Told them to call me. They couldn't because they were at a company meeting.

Both the ads were from different people, but they were both newly created users. They both starting the bidding around $100 and said that you had to send a private message before bidding. Both also said that the boats would be sold for a rediculous low amount of money.

I had the same thing happen with my truck too. They were oversees and they told me that they were sending a cashiers' check for $10k even though I was asking $5k. Once you cash the check and send 5k back in cash, it is already too late and the bank contacts you letting you know it was a bad check. I would have lost $5k. After I realized what was going on, I played along. I contacted the US Secret Service and forwarded all my e-mails to them and the phony cashiers' check. They said this kind of thing is happening all over the place. The foreign guy called my house asking for the money, which was a little scary, I never gave him my number.

That is a lot of fun. I love those Nigerian letters. I get them on my yahoo account. I usually write back about how my mother just got out of prision....and the sob story is on from there.

It's just amazing how many people get taken because of their greed. I know of one guy who shipped off a $6000.00 engine along with a $2000.00 over check. When I asked him what he was thinking, he told me the motor was blown and was not worth the 6k price.... :smt017 So his greed cost him $2000.00 :smt021
Plus shipping.... :smt043

Me too... :smt013

ON a serious not I e-mailed this guy about a local car. The price and ad seemed too low but worth a quick e-mail.
Keep in Mind I'm in the Seattle area.
Here's what I e-mailed him:

"Hello,

Can you let me know:
Has it been wrecked?
How many Miles?
What Dealer maintained it?
Has it ever been registered in Louisiana ?
Are you a car dealer?

Thanks

Todd "

Hi Reply
"Hello!

Thank you very much for your email regarding my Acura TSX. The car is available at the price of 7,800.00 USD (there is no typo). I require half of the amount prior shipping. This Acura TSX is in perfect condition, with absolutely no problems. It is a car that was well taken care of. It has only 84393 miles. Also I would like to clear that this is not a lease take over, and also it has no liens on it.
The VIN is: JH4CL96884C003172.
Another important aspect of the deal is that I am in Helsinki, where I have recently moved due to a very important promotion at work. This is also the main reason why the car is for sale since it cannot be registered here. I wanted to specify this because I believe that honesty and trust come first. If you want to carry on this transaction you can be sure that it will be done smoothly. If you decide to lose this opportunity, I will respect your decision.
The car is in USA, stored at eBay in San Jose. It will not be an over seas shipping. It will be shipped on my expenses along with the title, 2 sets of keys, owner's manual and a notarized bill of sale signed by me and by my lawyer.
Also, since you realise that due to my situation I have no time to lose so let's no waste each other's time.
Please email me with your FULL shipping address if you decide to continue, and eBay will contact you with all the details.
Thanks.
David Licenko"

So I asked:
"Hello David,

What if I wished to inspect it and pick it up upon satisfaction in San Jose? Is your lawyer there able to complete the transaction with clean title?

Todd

ad's removed from Craigslist...............................
Punk.

Guys...........there is no such thing as a free lunch. Don't waste your time..........

Clues on the boats are numerous.......no feedback history on sellers, bogus HIN #'s, stock photos, no personal items in the photos on the boats, locations are screwy, prices too low, private listings, listing questionaire completed by someone who was not a boater, etc.

ebay is pretty agressive now about fradulent attemtps to sell non-existant items. The listings will probably be removed soon.............
