Shady buyers agent

There is a definite conflict of interest here. There is no way around it ... if you do not want to pay somebody to do your legwork for you, then you will have to do it yourself. I realize that you are only after an opinion regarding the condition of a vessel(s), but any broker will tell you anything to try to make a sale. If they have previously viewed a particular boat in the past and if they supply you with positive intel on this boat and, as a result, you decide to view the boat in person, you should really be mentally braced for a major disappointment. Been there, done that.

^ A buyers broker does the exact opposite of that. They don't care which boat you buy, as long as its the right one for you. If your buyers broker has any hidden agenda or would try to push you into a boat you don't want, its time for a new one.

I agree with Carver's post #18.

The situation as I see it is you want assistance in previewing boats before committing to a sales contract and for your own personal reasons want to work with this broker. The broker wants assurance that he won't end up just spinning his wheels and spending time and $$$ with the possibility of no joy at the end.

I sold a boat a few years ago to an out of state buyer and he used https://www.boat-chek.com to check out my boat. They did a comprehensive inspection, I fired up the engines at the dock and he checked all the gauges & took extensive pictures (I never saw his final report) This would not be a substitute for a full survey but might be a workable compromise.

Okay I guess it is something we don't do a lot of here in Australia, using a Buyers Agent. I have just read up on what they do and it seems like a pretty popular way of buying in the USA.

Everything I have read on them says that they are licensed and you contract them to work and negotiate on your behalf. So I guess at some point you do pay them a fee for their services.
