Twin Cummins QSC 540
I have twin Cummins QSC 540s on a 2008 48 DA. Each engine has a fuel filter/water separator with two chambers right next to each other (or perhaps its more accurate to say each engine has two fuel filter/water separators). There's a lever on each of the port and starboard side to set the fuel filter/water separators to turn both off, both on, left on only or right on only. So among the 4 total separators (2 on each side), you can select to use all 4 or only the left or right ones on each side. I currently have the lever set to "both on" on both sides. Is this the correct setting and when would you want to only use the left or right separators? The owners manual doesn't provide any guidance here.

I'd leave it in the "both on" setting until you encounter a problem with one of them. Then switch it over so it runs off the good filter (for that engine) so you can get home.

BTW, get the part number for the fuel/water separators and google it. You likely will find them available online (buy 'em by the dozen) at a much cheaper price than your local Cummins dealer or West Marine will have them.

Thanks, that's very helpful
