So I received a service bulletin in the mail today regarding my 2018 SDX270. The letter states “some have been found to have hull cracks under the head unit. If left undiscovered, the boat can take on water. Take it to a dealer for service.”
So in the car world there are service bulletins that are more suggestions, and recalls which are mandatory. Not sure how this works for boats. Is this letter saying if I have cracks then service is needed, or is it saying service is needed cracks or no cracks? I am completely capable of inspecting my hull and not dragging my boat for 2 hours to leave it at the dealer in the spring until they get around to looking at it just to say “nope, no cracks..”. But if it means there is service to be done to prevent the cracks, then I guess I have no choice.
I will have to call my local dealer to get clarification on what this means.

Anyone else get the letter or know the answer?

Call your local dealer and find out what the story is. It probably is limited to a set number of hulls. They also may have an alternative to you taking your boat to them.

Called the dealer I purchased from and my now local dealer. Both responded that they will get me an answer but neither have got back to me with an answer.

Received some detail from Sea Ray:

While unlikely, the cracking could occur due to a small foam void under the head compartment, between the head floor and hull. If the void is present, impact on the hull could result in excessive flexing of that area. The requested inspection will confirm if the void is present and if so, additional foam will be added from inside the head compartment. This foam is an expandable closed cell foam that is present in many other areas of the hull.

So it will not be a big deal either way, just the PIA of getting it in.

Correct. The boat is tucked away in my warehouse for the winter. It is spotless inside and out. Dealer is 1.5 hours away. And it is winter here already. I am asking that they could fix it in one day, and on short notice. If we get a run of good weather, I would drag it to them. I would prefer they tell me where to drill the 3 small holes in the head floor to check for foam, then send me the plugs they plan to press in if foam is found.... save me 3 hours of towing.

And then send you the material to fix it -- or better yet just send someone to you to fix it.
