I have a SmartCraft System.
My trim tabs are not being picked up to show their location.
I am not sure if I even have sensors for them.

How does one find out, and is there something you can purchase to link the two?

Thanks!

From my SmartCraft research I have not found anything to suggest it supports trim tab position. It does support drive trim display from the OEM trim indicator mounted on the stern drive.

Basically, you would need to purchase the Bennett Trim Tab Position Sensors, tie that in to a NMEA2K Network to relay that data. To get that Data in to Smartcraft, you would need to purchase a Merc Monitor but if you have a NMEA2K compatible plotter, you can send the data there to view as a more cost effective alternative. I think Bennett actually has a panel of their own that will display the data if you dont want to send to the plotter.

Sorry I dont have time to add more details because I have to go in to work today but I can add more info later or others might chime in as well.

This approach is correct for data that SmartCraft can use. There is no trim tab display on any of the SmartCraft gauges, so while the pathway would 'work'. Nothing would display. You could pass AIS data that way as well, but nothing would display. My setup does just that via nmea0183 and the AIS data is just ignored.

Tab position won't display on his existing SC instruments however it will display on the Smartcraft Merc Monitor Gauge as I had indicated if he chose that route. I still think if he has a N2K plotter he is best off viewing it there thus eliminating the cost of the MercMonitor. I don't have a Merc Monitor but going by the Manual page 147 for this information. http://www.livorsi.com/pdf/MercMonitor_operation.pdf
