In my considerations of moving up to a new boat comes the question of the best way to get rid of my current boat. Currently I am being offered $47,500 as a trade towards a '04 280DA. But I have also considered brokering it. I don't really care for the hassle of brokerage, but how well can I do? It doesn't seem there are many 240SDs out there w/ the 6.2 going for over 47k.

What price are they giving you on the new 280? $47K for trade in value sounds pretty good at first glance. But the 240SD is also a very popular boat and spring is coming, dealer figures to make good resale on your boat if he is putting that much on paper.

what do you want to net out of the 240?

brokerage commission is 10%. so, take your trade number, and add 10%. can you sell if for that?

also - how long will it take? is the boat that is in stock the right boat for you? if so, can you afford to have 2 boats? if not, how long before the right one shows up?

it's all part of the equation.

i just did a quick check for the 240 on yachtworld, and there are about 6 of your boat, and they are from 40-47.

there are 3 pages of 280 sundancers, with prices all over the place. that could explain the dealer's eagerness to make this trade.

I too was going to suggest looking at the price difference and make sure the numbers worked out good on the 280, but honestly, not looking at anything, just form the gut, it doesn't sound like a bad deal at all so far.

$47.5 sounds pretty generous, but if they're really going for that, hurray for us 240 SD owners. And the 280's are all over, but one of my favorites and that doesn't sound bad with a BB and genny.

I really would prefer not to broker it. I'm not sure that I could get $47k if I brokered it, but even if I did, I'd be paying close to $5k for that. I do know that a 240SD w/ 6.2 engine is scarce in the area, or even in a 500 mile radius, so I'm sure they know they will sell it quick. But I won't let their offer on my trade convince me to buy if I still can't get the price of the 280DA where I want it. LOTO is a popular lake with the 280DA, but I think it is even more popular with the 240SD. I'm sure the salesman is watching this thread, so I hope he listens!

Hmmm, wonder what the demand for a 240SD with a 540 is?
