Hello,

Per the signature I have a 22 footer. Is there any way to see the crew races and parade without tying up to the log boom? That seems to be for the big boats with donations etc. I've been under 520 all winter long during the new bridge construction however it may be a mess with all the traffic. I'm coming from the South and need to go under. Any anchoring/tie up information for smaller boats would be much appreciated.

Lots of smaller boats tie up to the log boom. The last section is all first come first serve and costs $10 per foot of beam. The UW staff will come along to help tie up and collect the donation. The opposite side of the channel from the log boom is all free to anchor. Go to http://www.seattleyachtclub.org/files/Anchoring.pdf for specifics. You will need to get there pretty early. The area gets shut down to moving boat traffic about 30 minutes before the first race and you wont be able to leave until the parade is complete.

Thanks rlester.

Any special fenders I need to tie to log boom? Is the swim step against the boom? And fenders between neighbors...

thanks all

your platform will be up against the boom and be prepared for others to raft to you. I uses these http://www.fisheriessupply.com/taylor-made-products-transom-fender-56090 on the boom side but you can use regular fenders. you just have to watch them so they don't roll under the platform. I've also seen people use old tires (not as fancy). If you get a good anchor setting it will help hold you off the boom as well.

We did it! Rlester thanks for the tips. The fender worked perfectly as did getting there early. It was an AMAZING experience with epic weather! 14 hours of boating on the Sundeck, time for a cabin sleeper! I also ran two lines around the boom off the stern cleats, tied to a large neighbor and an anchor off front however I never got decent purchase with the Danforth on the bottom, pic attached. And a bonus picture of the action. Unfortunately not many SeaRays around...

Well it sure looks like there were a LOT of people having fun out there. I've been to one Opening Weekend parade and it was a real kick.

Glad you had a good time.
