Hi all. I have recently become the owner of a 2001 240 Sundancer. It's a lovely boat and I'm really impressed with the standard of build, but there are some things I'd like to change in the cabin seating area. I've upgraded from a 21 Bayliner Cierra and although the Sea Ray is more roomy, the Bayliner seating was actually more comfortable and practical. The trouble is that the Sea Ray seating area goes into the prow of the boat and provides neither a practical place to sit (as one's legs are a mile away from the cushion edge), nor does it provide a good "bed head" when using the bed that way round (and being English, my lady likes nothing more than to drink GALLONS of TEA in bed like that in the mornings!). My Bayliner had a boxed-in section which proved storage, a back rest, and also a handy wide "shelf area" for placing books, clothes, drinks etc.
Also, the side cushions on my Bayliner simply rested against the hull. This was very comfortable and made really good use of space, whereas the Sea ray has a kind of plywood ridge that pushes the cushions away from the hull, leaving a 3" gap behind.
I would like if possible to recreate something similar (using plywood and carpeting over), and reorganising the backrest cushions so that they lie further back against the hull. To do this I'd need to remove the plywood ridge that protrudes from the hull (it looks like it's bonded in somehow). I just wondered if anyone else had tried the same or if anyone could offer advice as to whether this is (all) possible. Have attached photos (the blue upholstery is the Sea Ray, the other, the cream the Bayliner)
