This may not be a good spot to ask but just two weeks after getting our spotless 2007 260, my step daughter came to visit and was wearing a black swim suit coverup that was apparently not very color fast. She sat on our white seats and when she got up you could definately see the discoloration. Pretty severe in some spots. To make it worse, when I noticed the staining she had already moved to a different spot and stained that cushion as well. We tried to wipe it off immediately with water and a rag (all we had) but to no avail.
Does anyone know of a product that will remove this dye stain or are my seats permanently discolored?

Thanks
Mike

There's really no "best" vinyl cleaner out there. You can try any type that you might have, but I suspect none will really do anything.

Try letting the sun beat down on it for a few days to week or so. If that's not doing it, mix up a solution of water and bleach in about a 3:1 ratio (guessing is fine here). Saturate a rag and let it sit on the stain for about 5 minutes and check it. If you can, do this out of direct sun.

Whatever you do, don't use the Mr. Clean Maic Eraser or you will be banned from this site!:smt001

I had good luck with WD-40. There are several threads about this - that's where I got the WD-40 idea. But it still takes some work and you will only get about 90% of it out - then you let the sun do it's work. I can't even see the red stains that I had.

Spray Nine works well without damaging vinyl.

Whats up with the magic eraser? My buddy uses it on his 2003 280 DA. I told him it was an abrasive that will damage the vinyl outer coating. He said he's had no problems with it but I still will not use it.

Trust your own answer on this one, Todd. Can it be used extremely sparingly over the years? Maybe. But there are better ways to keep vinyl clean that will cause no damage, whatsoever. Eventually all that sanding is going to catch up with your friend.

Does your buddy have his VHF antenna at a 45* angle, too? :smt001

First off, I apologize as it appears I'm not the only one that has had this problem and I should have done some research here before asking.

It appears there are several options to ponder but the end result appears to basically rely on good ol man sunshine.

Thanks everyone!

Mike

We had the exact same problem with black dye from a woman's shorts. The sun made it go away in one day.

No I don't think so but he does like to run with his fenders hanging over the side!!:smt043:grin:

Diluted bleach was a good suggestion, just be sure to rinse thoroughly after use to prevent the bleach from decomposing the stitching if you spill any which soaks in.

Spray Nine by Knights Marine (Spray 9 )? does an excellent job on vinyl, (don't use it on clear though) gelcoat, bilge cleaning & more. Pretty amazing stuff considering 99.* % inert ingredients (water). Takes greasy hand prints off of white seats like magic.

West Marine carries it.

Has anyone tried using K9P? ;-)

Hey! I resemble that remark...

now, in my defense, I'm as high as I can possibly go to get under my covered slip...and I'm not doing a 70' slip. as my dad used to always tell me "son, poor people have poor ways. you're just gonna have to make due".
