Seat is hurting my rear

We own a brand new '07 230 Select......about 16 hours on it now.

As the primary driver, I use the flip-up seat about 99% of the time. I've already noticed that the padding "slips" around and I find my rear end to be sitting on a steel crossbar.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem with their Sea Ray.......any model?

Does the 230 have the "Star Trek" seats like these?

If so I don't believe the bolster is as thick as the older style seats. But having said that, I don't find the older style seats very comfortabe to sit on (the bolster) for long periods of time myself. But in any case the padding shouldn't slip around either. Mention it to your dealer and they will probably just replace the seat under warranty.

This is one of the reasons we got the 2006 vs a 2007 because we didn't like the new seat design.

Hey Dave,

That's my seat!!!

Plan to definitely bring this up to dealer, but I was looking for a little public opinion before doing so.

Had a 2002 Chapparal before this boat and the "bolster" seat was fantastic for 6 years (and I weigh 255 lbs).

When you are at your dealer, check out a new 260DA or a 280DA. They still have the "old style" seat that was in all the previous sport boats and Sundecks. That way you can compare the bolsters on the "older style" with the newer style seats like you have.

Dumb side question. Why are you using the flip-up seat 99% of the time? Don't that put you're face over the windshield ?

I only use the flip-up about 5% of the time. Most of the time if I have to be over the windshield like when docking or in a shallow area I'm standing up.

Maybe I'm the odd man out here, but I seem to be only on the bolster, or standing when cruising around. The wind in my hair, the sights and smells of the ocean, who could possibly hide behind a windshield. I am just speaking for myself here.

Half the time I sit on a boat cushion (Type 4 pfd) at the helm, half the time I stand to the side of the wheel, and the other half of the time I sit on the bolster. On my way to math class, of course. The point is that I like to vary things and that's the way I stay comfortable.

I rarely ever sit on the bolster. However, I do flip it up and stand directly behind the wheel. I also like a little wind in my face and listen to my 230's hull slice through the water. Nice thing about my SR and many ohter SR models is that when I am sitting, I look directly through the w/s, not to be confused with looking at top of the w/s frame.

I have the older seat and also sit on the bolster probably 100% of the time. My seat was also hurting my rear because of the metal bar. I put a type 4 boat cushion on top and sit on that. Probably a good thing to have it out anyway.

If you're sitting on the seat, you don't as good a view of your surroundings, as opposed to sitting on the bolster. I think it's safer to be looking from over the windshield.

I agree, the only time i'm sitting down in the seat is when the boat is not moving.

The new style star trek seats just don't cut it for me. Don't like the looks. The older style are much more comfortable.

Prefer the look of the new "Star Trek" seats over the old ones.....never liked that design. However I've never sat in an old one so can't speak to the comfort.

Says you have a 2006 205 sport, it has the star trek design?

I find that looking through the w/s also gives me too much reflection from the curved glass surface. I prefer to stand. We don't have a flip-up bolster, so I'm standing all the time while underway. That is, if the the Admiral isn't driving, which she most always is.

Therefore, I'm mostly sitting while underway. Yeah, that's it.

Sorry I think I may have hijacked the thread. Did not mean to, but very interesting comments about sitting versus standing. I'm going to start a new thread.
