Hello everyone , my wife and I have a 1989 searay 390 and our fresh water tank is metal and now leaking bad. And help or ideas on how to fix , remove , bypass etc would be greatly appreciated. And is there a way to hook the boat up to shore water and bypass the tank while at our slip ?

When hooked up to city water it should bypass the tank.

If you are still experiencing a leak I'd look else ware.

the tank is definitely leaking if you try to fill it it fills the compartment that the fresh water tank is in with a lot of water , I have two water hook ups on the side of the boat , and both fill that compartment with fresh water ??

It seems odd that you've got two deck plates that are putting water inside that compartment. When you say "on the side of the boat" do you mean the gunnel? Did they have stainless caps on them? Are they labeled?

I found a link to a 1990 390 that shows the dockside fresh water hookup being inside the cockpit, port side, midship. Perhaps not the same on a 1989 however.

I wonder if you've been connecting to previously installed engine flush connections that may no longer be operational? Very strange....

I agree ! We have two water connections on the out side of the boat , the one near the back is recessed and has a plastic cap , the there is one more further up on the same side of the boat that’s is normal with stainless cap.

Hard to see but these are the two water hook ups

I don’t , my cockpit is different , that water hook up is on the out side of my boat

I think you should do some digging on those connections you've been trying. Two things should be true - 1.) you should only have one connection on the boat that fills your fresh water tank and 2.) your dockside freshwater hookup should bypass your tank all together. Generally your fresh water tank fill will be a standard metal "cap" that you shove a hose into and let the tank fill, pull back out when done. Your dockside freshwater connection will be a threaded female connection that hooks up to a garden hose and keeps it there.

Can you get your head into the tank area while you're filling and see if a filler hose has become disconnected? Can you trace both hose connections that appear to be filling the compartment you mentioned? It seems to me it's more likely you have one or two plumbing issues rather than a tank issue.

The forward location in your photo is normally the location for the water tank fill. The rear location is the alternate location for the shore water connection when it is not located inside the boat as Stee has pointed out in his photo. This only holds true if PO did not make some changes.
