Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum and looking at buying a Searay 220 Sundeck. I have checked out all aspects of the boat. I have two queries. 1. How do they handle in rough water......2. What engine size do you recommend. Keep in mind that I will be using it for wakeboarding etc. Cheers, Craig

They are primarily a lake boat. Not a deep V hull. Best ride is in light chop 1-2 footer's with occasional 3ft. The rougher the conditions, the more teeth you will lose. But the 220 will get you home safely. Get the 350MAG if you plan on watersports at all.

Which years are you thinking about. Is selfbailing needed in your area?

The boat in question is a small boat but I think it is still considered a deep V hull at 21 degree deadrise.

The best part on a boat to keep you and the passengers out of trouble is not the deadrise or the engine, it's your brain. By that I mean it's up to you to watch the weather and be able to recognize when a storm is brewing. I don't know what waters you'll be boating on, but when we were kids we boated on Lake Huron/Saginaw Bay with a 16' Thompson with a 50hp Johnson outboard. We were often out in 2'-3' waves and nobody (even parents) thought much of it.

It's all a matter of you learning how to handle the boat, learning what it's capable of, and using your senses to watch the weather and recognize when things are starting to get windy.

BTW, where is the "Mornington Peninsula Vic" and what waters do you boat on?

The Mornington Peninsula is a large Bay of water south of Melbourne Australia. We always watch the weather prior to heading out, however as mentioned, the Bay is known for its sudden change.

Thanks for your feedback so far.

Cheers, Craig
