Hello all. I need to replace a raw water pump due to a leak with a rebuilt one from Cat. Removal seems to be just nuts and bolts, installation also seems straight forward. I believe in addition to the pump i'll need a gasket between between the flywheel housing and two gaskets for each elbow. The rebuilt pump probably does not come with the drive gear attached, what do I need to do to remove the gear from old pump and press onto new pump? Any other issues I'm overlooking?
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

First, check with DEPCO in your area for a replacement pump for Cat engines. The OEM mfg is Sherwood and you can buy a sherwood directly from DEPCO for about 1/2 the coast of the same pump from Caterpillar. I think it is a 17000 series but verify with them to be sure.

The drive gear is pressed on a tapered shaft on the pump. Sometimes you can ease the gear off the taper with 2 screw drivers, but sometimes you have to use a press. DOn't lose the key. Reinstallation of the gear on the new pump can usually be done with the nut and pressing isn't needed. Be sure you get the nut tight. If it falls off in the accessory drive cover, it can make a mess and be nearly impossible to fish out.

Thanks for the quick reply. Would it be a good idea to us a thread locker (permatex, locktite) on the shaft? I was hoping to get a rebuilt pump from Cat but I will definitely check DEPCO.

Frank has posted before that it's not a good idea to use a re-built pump in this application, and I would say no to the permatex. (but He knows better)
