Sea Ray Yacht Expo

I have not been since they changed the focus of the event to hard selling. In fairness to our dealer, our boat suits us so well that I am not a serious buyer. Even though I like to look at the new boats and systems, I hate for them to pay my freight when the chances are slim that I'll get the itch.

I may go down the last day or so because our dealer in NW Fla usually takes 2-3 of the new boats after the Rendevouz and he needs someone to run them back from the East coast.

THis is the time to make a deal on anythinnew and big. Sea Ray struggles to keep the factories running during the Jan - March time period because the nrothern dealers just won't take boats then. If you are interested in buying, take your check book and if you are willing to commit for a boat that is made during that time frame, you will buy it cheaper that ant any other time of the year. But expect to get put in a box and pressured to make a deal like never before.

Have fun..............and make 'em work for it!

That can't be right. The sales guy told me that they would have to "squeeze me in" for a 58 Sedan Bridge and they may be able to do it if I act fast because the boat is in such high demand... HA HA HA HA

Actually, I have just started poking around at other boats and I'm not sure the 58 is my next boat but I would definitely consider it. Some of the short comings of the 480 would have to not be in the 58 though. I also would want to run this thing on the open water and not just down the ICW but I'm not sure they will do that. All boats run fine in flat channels.

Yeah, right.............when was the last time you tried to buy a big ticket item and the speddler didn't try to impress you with how scarce the are, how high the demand is, or I can only show you one.....when there is a lot full 'em out the back door?

Your salesman is full of crap.............Yacht Rendevouz/Expo is held for the purpose of selling boats, specifically to sell boats that use up a space in the process capacity of the factories, whether it be your buying one in inventory and the dealer committing for a Jan-MArch delovery slot on something new, you your buying a Jan- March boat. Why else would Sea Ray do it.......just to have a fell-good party? I don't think so.

Additionally, big boats are not selling......period. With the market where it is, interest rates rising and fuel prices where they are, buyers are delaying purchasing. Most dealers cannot buy a customer right now.

The astitute new boat buyer should be able to just about steal a big boat between now and the first of the year............

I last went to the Expo in 2003. It was a lot of fun and informative but as Frank says, it is a selling event. It is also the best time to buy an inventory boat at your local dealer.

December ends the sales year and the reps are scrambling to make their quota. The sales management is all there and they can work with SeaRay to put a deal together. Do your homework ahead of time and be prepared to walk away if need be.

Have fun!

We were at Yacht Expo last year. It is a hard sell event - period. I have to admit that I became weary after the hard sell. I am usually pretty tuff skinned but the sales pitch wore me flat out. This took a bit of fun out of the rest of the event. It is a first class event. Food and booze are all first rate and the tours are interesting. Go with a mind set that you will have to endure the hard sell and you can have a great time. Also to Franks point the deal I was presented with was outstanding. There is lots of money from SeaRay to attempt to close these deals. Just when you think they have presented their last offer they put more money on the table. I did not do the deal, I ended up purchasing a 2 year old brokerage boat with low hrs at a very substantial savings. I guess they wasted Yacht Expo on me.

Yacht Expo or otherwise there are great deals to be had on the big boats, especially those in stock. I am closing on the new 58 tomorrow and it seems like this is the first "yacht" they have sold in a long time.

Ordering from future production may not yield as good a price, but you get exactly what you desire.
