Sea Ray vs Chaparral

I'm a little surprised no one but myself has mentioned Crownline. Of all the boats we considered the Crownline was pretty close to the Searays. We just didn't happen to like the way some of their features were integrated.
I can say that right now we have a 20ft Crownline and we've really enjoyed the boat this summer but after a year we are ready to move up (the 2+ foottitis) and after much searching we have our eyes on Searay's SD240

I priced my 250SLX against the 252 Cobalt and given the same equipment and options, it came in 15% higher in price. Not saying they do not make a great boat but it is not worth 15% more than a Sea Ray.

would have to agree.... Just took my boat on the Tennessee River and cruised over 300 miles. It was so nice and these SLX's drive like a cadillac.... amazing... it really was a pleasure cruising in the SLX..

At the time we were looking at the Crowns we had not yet seen the Searays. I would be very remorseful right now had I bought the Crown knowing what I now know about the Searays.

I looked at tons of boats from top end so called boats like doral to lower end like bayliners. I based my buying on experience and i grew up on a small bayliner its still runs great and yes its faded but the boat is nearly 24 years old. I ended up in a searay dealership because i thought they sold all three lines bayliner, maxium, searay. searay became the new boat due to i was thinking msrp prices so much that when i saw what i could really buy i went with the searay. Im happy with the boat but sometimes think what would it be like to have those so called nicer boats Cobalt,Doral untill i see that im doing the same as them. Having FUN

If it's not Searay it's CRAP!!!!

I won't get into the SR vs Chap debate since I have limited time on the chap but I'm on the 4th sea ray in 15 yrs. I have no reason to look at other brands because of my exp with my sea rays and the SR dealers we have worked with.
I can tell you that the SR dealer you would be working with, SMYC, is a top notch dealer. I have been extremely impressed with their service with the 2 new boats we bought from them. If you keep your boat at a dock on the lake, they have a mobile service for oil changes, winterizing etc. I really can't say enough about how well we have been treated over the years. SB

1) Thanks to everyone for the great advice.

2) I bought the Chaparral, it's loaded, got a good deal, positive experience with this dealer for many years, etc.

I think Sea Ray is a very fine boat and will consider again next time I buy a boat.

Thanks again. You guys have been really great. Wish you all the best.

Safe Boating

Funny but I was thinking the exact same thing!

My wife an I bought our first boat this year for us and our kids and we shopped the heck out of them. We looked at everything from a Nautic Star to the Bayliner and wanted a nice blend of performance and fit and finish. It seems all I could find was a fiberglass shell that would haul butt, or a reasonably nice cruiser but not much in the middle. We had finally made up our mind to go purchase a competitor and went to Atlanta Inboard to buy it and they had a Sundeck sitting on the lot just 3 up from the one we came to buy that was brand new. Needless to say we only had to climb into both side by side to know there was a serious dfference even without taking our first ride. I passed up the new boat for the used Sea Ray and this is one of the few purchases that I can say i honestly had no buyers remorse. With a young family the Sundeck is a blast as so versatile for our family and friends. And with the great people on this message board it is like having a wise ol salty dog living right next door when you got a question! Lol.
